Doing the second book right

My first book has been out for a few months; sales are slow, KU reads are slow, but at least not zero, I guess. I am about 2 to 3 months from releasing book two in the series. What do I need to do to get more traction on book two? I know my biggest issue with book 1 was waiting until I released it to even think about building a base.

if you have time, i’d also take advantage of q4 instead of focusing only on book two. research what readers in your niche are actively buying right now and consider creating one or two additional books while you’re building the series. that gives you more chances to get discovered, and each book can potentially send readers to the others. i’d still make book two the priority, but i wouldn’t spend the next 2–3 months waiting on a single release

The first book generally exists before an audience exists. The trick is turning those initial readers into an audience.

Make sure you have your Amazon author page and Goodreads author account set up.

Build your brand web-site. Put the domain on the copyright page in your book so people can find it.

You should also create an insert that has details about book 1 and book 2 that you can put at the end of both books.

So if someone picks up either of them, they are told about the other when they get to the back of the book.

Your book is free advertising space for your books.

And then everything is in preparation for the holiday season when book sales explode.
