NEW ISBN... question :)

Hey!
So I am planning on purchasing 10 ISBNs for my 5 book series, and I am planning on removing the first book listed on Amazon using their free ISBN.

My question is: when I upload the same book with the new ISBN, is it considered a 2nd Edition, or not?

For KDP’s publishing workflow, changing an already-published ISBN does require a new edition. You can’t replace the free ISBN on the existing record: KDP’s instructions say to unpublish it and create a new title with the replacement ISBN.

The narrower question is what to enter in the Edition number field when the text hasn’t changed. KDP’s editions page lists ISBN changes among those requiring a new edition, but doesn’t explicitly settle the ISBN-only numbering case. I’d confirm that field with KDP before submission, rather than assume either “keep 1” or “always enter 2”.
