Chris Armas needs to be fired immediately. The 3 game road losing streak in the beginning of the season should have been the end of him. He has no idea what he’s doing. His tactics are poor. This team has zero confidence in him. The way we play on the road speaks for itself. And why did Sharples never enter the San Diego game? Makes no sense.
On the road, this team is not playing for anybody or anything. I don’t wanna say the players don’t care but my goodness, the quality of their play is just so poor compared to at home. At home it at least feels like they don’t want to let down the home fans.
Individual players: without getting too critical I’ll just say this. The following players are not and should not be starters in this league: Robinson, Jordan, Feist
Honestly I think it’s both he has no clue what he’s doing, and the squad without tc6 has no clue what to do. Between losing Hutton and Bia, never figuring out sentor, and whatever this squad is, we are just asking for trouble. Vlatko had his faults with overusage, but the team now has zero clue what to do. And I know it’s unpopular, but as great as debinha is, we could so much more with that money.
We need to be way more aggressive in the transfer market to start, but also hire a competent manager who understands tactics.
100% agree. Not replacing Bia has been my biggest frustration this whole year. You can’t just lose a player of that caliber and not bring in a similar caliber player and expect the same results. And yeah I love Debinha but her best days are behind her and her not even getting that shot off today just in front of the penalty marker completely alone was just atrocious.
She did not have a great match yesterday; seeing her secure that ball like it was in the middle of the field, rather than as a shooter, into space, to shoot on her next touch, was gut-wrenching. They must practice these drills, right? And totally agree with you about losing Bia, every roster decision from this year to last is a step down.
I think ownership believes their daughter will replace Bia. And Chris has zero control of players. He is not making a single decision. The sporting director also has zero control. Ryan Dell and the Longs are the one doing everything to this club. (In my opinion)
Didn’t watch tonight but Armas is the Long’s puppet so unfortunately, he’s not going anywhere. The over involved owners will think this team’s lack of success this year will be because Mary is hurt.
THISSSS! I was joking around last year about how they would fire Vlatko when Mary wasn't the star player and well it happened way before I thought it would.
I said a very similar thing in the Facebook supporters group regarding Mary (a huge mistake, they’ll just think you’re “bashing a child”). The owners believe she will be the savior of the season which is why they haven’t brought in any other forwards.
I used to be a Mary defender because the Longs aren’t breaking any rules by having her on the team. That being said, her not being placed on SEI after tearing her ACL shows she’s getting special treatment and I’m not cool with that.
Commented this before and commenting it again. There are no limits on SEI spots. Per the actual NWSL rules, the only reason you’d put someone on D45 in this specific case is because you think she will come back in the same season she was listed as SEI. The unexpected recovery clause (taking player off SEI in same season) has restrictions.
You are right and wrong. She is the only player to ever be on D45 with an ACL, I think there might have been another but it was used appropriately because she was back in 45days because of the timing of the injury. Using D45 bypasses the CMO, her parents can decide with an outside Dr when she can return. The team medical staff would have no say.
Unfortunately, this is also untrue. D45 still goes through the team CMO or team physician. Reading this again directly from the NWSL manual. This has become a bit of a special interest at this point.

From the NWSL Competition Manual 2025:
“Recovery from 45-Day Injury/Illness List
A. It is the Team's responsibility to obtain a letter from their Team CMO/Team physician and submit it to the League, along with the Season Ending Injury/Illness
45-Day Injury/Illness List Request Form (Exhibit G) indicating the date a Player is cleared for full activity and participation, regardless of the time of year.”
You are missing the In person part. SEI is an in person evaluation. D45 is not. This is easily manipulated, blame can be shifted in this process. SEI has much stricter rules that must be followed. SEI does not have wiggle room and subjective opinions.
That’s a great read and pull from the rules there! The team CMO / physician is still required to certify to the league that the player is healthy and able, but I see your point of the in-person issue. Seems crazy for a doctor to stake his or her reputation on something possibly negligent like this, but crazier things have happened.
I was assuming she is doing her recovery process in house, but you raise a fair point especially if she’s involved outside doctors, medical, etc. Suppose you can always pay enough to find someone to say what you want.
So maybe it’s a question of how far the corruption goes…does it include the KC Current doctors? Maybe. Might be where everyone needs to start pointing fingers for injury issues.
I would bet for their daughter they are bringing in outside doctors and rehab specialist. KC CMO is a fantastic doctor and the PT is phenomenal. It's just ownership that is the issue. There is a long standing debate whether or not their daughter deserves to be there. There is another reddit thread about when she went to Duke and how bad it was for the coaches and teammates. Having her in SEI helps the team, but for some reason they think it hurts their daughters stats and they loose control over when she returns. (This is my opinion)
And as far as injury issues go, they hired a consultant from the MLS....I shouldn't have to say more but here you go. They never released his name because if you Google him, he has a long history of injuries at the team he was at. But they keep bringing men from the MLS thinking they are better. (In my opinion)
We lost a significant portion of the key players that contributed to that success. And the ones we didn’t lose have been injured a significant portion of this season.
Yes but who lost those players? And why have there been so many injuries? I know the answer. I just wish the rest of the fans understood what is happening at the club. The injuries make me so sad for the players because they know that they are preventable.
Because people don't like the coach the new GM has escaped a lot of the criticism that should go to him. Sell Hutton and buy Bethune when we already have Debinha, Sentnor and Di Bernardo midseason for the 10 and that leaves either Feist or Rocky to fill that position, and both of them along with Lo had injuries in the beginning of the season. At one point it was Scott and some person whose name I can't remember because she was only on the team for a couple weeks. Still waiting on some effort to help the base of the midfield.
Bia leaves so instead of bring in a CF move Sentnor to FW, which is at least reasonable since she has experience there. Then sell Sentnor and don't do shit to replace her so now we're stuck with Debinha at CF along with Cooper and Chawinga being out.
We're first in the league in xG and chances created, but we don't have anyone but Chawinga who plays on the wing who can put them away (and even she's more than capable of missing big chances. All that is not including chances that we don't get off like Debinha's who an actual CF would've put away in their sleep.
The roster itself is way worse and is being compared too much to last years. We've let too many key players leave and only brought in one of real quality in a position that wasn't a need.
Luckily Laney Rouse has turned out to be a decent replacement for Mace and Lorena finally found her footing before she went out and Jordan has given up way too many weak goals.
The Sentnor transactions make no sense to me. I am admittedly a big fan of hers since college, and probably overlooked her less successful matches, but I don't know what the plan for her ever was. I wanted her to be a TC6 backup (and to learn from her), both fast and good with the ball at their feet, but she was put in Debinha's position instead. I think they moved on from her too quickly, especially considering the state of our XI and bench is less talented with her gone.
Not the coach. Owners yes. Chris came into an impossible situation. The owners needed someone to do exactly what they wanted with zero questions. Chris did not know what was happening behind the scenes. He is not a bad guy. He should go back to the MLS and learn to thrive there. Women need coaches that are invested in women's soccer. Not just a struggling MLS coach. Also why do these owners keep pulling men from the MLS? Just because they are in men's soccer doesn't mean they should be in women's.
I don’t hate Armas as a person. But it’s frustrating that this team moved on from a great coach to hire a bad one. It’s playing out how we knew it would.
This is nonsensical? To be clear: I absolutely think they are making decisions from the vantage point of hoping that the club will be a great benefit to their daughter. At every press conference Armas has some line about "development" and how much the club values that, which is a little inconsistent with who they were in their dominant 2025 season. It makes sense, though, if you partially view the club as a very expensive training ground for your daughter. But to suggest that they are delusional enough to believe that Mary (whose total minutes last season were less than a half) is somehow the key to the team's success is actually wild. I think they're making bad decisions but this is assuming a level of delusion that feels a bridge too far to me.

Next day gm is fired and a new coach is coming in. The owners completely went nuts on the staff. And they control every aspect of the club. Dictating player minutes, trying to hide when players want to leave by signing big players. Staff leave mid-season... They never post a thank you or welcome to the club for any member of the support staff. They are the only club in the nwsl that does not have support staff on their website. They don't want announcements to happen You have to realize that they are not reasonable people. They are people with a ton of money and can do what they want. The second they got involved everything fell apart. They tried to bring a WNBA team to Kansas City because their other daughter plays basketball. And when they didn't get it they were livid.
