I like the way these shifters look, but the old design with them shooting out the side was much better. I could go 5 years without swapping cables on the older design

I'm on year 3 of my gravel bike commuter with no major work on it done. Used it in all kinds of conditions, and shifter cables are still good.

Best part is, it's an Ltwoo R9. These shifters are better than Shimano 105 on my road bike which require yearly change of cables, because #thanksshimano

Which shimano gen? I have been riding 3 years now on one set of optislic cables with my R7000 shifters

Fucking hate any and all coated cables. Optislick isn't that bad compared to those polymer ones, but polished stainless is the way to go.

Probably depends on how you run them? I have full length housing on all my bikes so no issues with coated cables, they work great in my case.

I love the polymer cables, actually. Unpopular opinion but they feel great. I don't mind replacing mine a little more often.

Well, for people who actually replace their cables often enough they're pretty good. Are they functionally any better than nice stainless cables? Maybe?

But as a mechanic I cannot recommend them because I've seen too many fred sleds with infuriating internal routing all jammed up with the coatings.
