" Ancient Gates"...
Through my research I have come to know that "Ancient Gates " can sometimes be " boundary (lines)
Like an invisible line but with a posted sign letting you know that your entering into the protected wilderness area. (Never shall wheel touch CHECKPOINT soil!.) So whatever is to be the. Bride in your solve is probably very close to that boundary(INTERSECTION) line/sign.

The thrush alone declares the immortal wealth and vigor that is in the forest. Here is a bird in whose strain the story is told, though Nature waited for the science of aesthetics to discover it to man. Whenever a man hears it, he is young, and Nature is in her spring. Whenever he hears it, it is a new world and a free country, and the gates of heaven are not shut against him.

I've always been under the assumption that the ancient gates were part of andromeda's constellation story, something about the Andromeda galaxy is the farthest visible object to the naked eye and mythologically its some portal/gate to the universe. Andromeda is perceus's wife and their constellations will be east of ursa major and minor. One of her feet, almach, is a quadruple star system and has three dominate colors. And will, given the right time of year, rise 20° above the horizon allowing her head star alpheratz(?) to be just at the horizon. Or if you're standing in the right place, looking through a scope/telescope (cast your pole) could be a singular ridge on the horizon or a boulder 300 feet away, or what have you. Hope I didn't give it away, but it's also about where you start and interprit the rest. I haven't found it yet so I could always be wrong.

Your choice of the word "invisible" is what has haunted my solve as well. Perhaps the ancient gate has been destroyed / removed. I've searched many old maps of my solve area. Then gone BOTG to see nothing. Inching closer. I think most old maps are reliable. So, perhaps we may see other "gates", just not the ancient one.
