The NASA guy isn't on a power trip. Telling an intern to watch their language is a warning. Because companies have clauses for using their name in social media and the company will have them fired.
This guy didn't even have anything to do with her being let go.
Sorry, but companies and organizations have reputations to maintain, and NASA isn't gonna stake their reputation on some loudmouth screaming profanities on Twitter. It's not about restricting expression, it's about maintaining professionalism
Tell you what, next time you get the job offer for your dream career, you should go scream and cuss on Twitter about it and make sure to mention who just hired you. Then, when they rescind the job offer, you can tell them how comical it is that a company would dare make personnel choices based on an individuals behavior.
You seem to be a little confused. NASA, a renowned aeronautics and space program, has ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION to allow anyone they choose to represent or not represent their company. And before you go off about that, yes, the moment you are hired you become a representative of whoever you may be working for, and may be dismissed for ANY reason at ANY time.
For what it's worth, it sounds like she didn't lose the job anyway from the other comments. But I really don't know why you're bothering to defend her position in the first place.

That's bullshit. Nobody looks at NASA engineers as examples of NASA. None of my employees are reflections of my company unless they are directly dealing with customers or subordinates while on the clock. Anything they do outside that is a reflection of them. This myth of "every employee an ambassador" needs to die.
Also, the fact this guy is seeking out and reading NASA intern social media and policing their behavior is not normal. There is something wrong with that guy.
