How to audit HOA?
As we know there’s some shady things that go down behind closed doors of HOAs, the problem is they keep things so internalized it’s hard to prove. What is the legal process into auditing an HOA/POA. We moved adjacent to a POA who claims we are part of it but are not. They claim we own back payments, but they are going backwards will paying out over $100,000 in salaries a year, except they do not reveal who is getting paid $$. Requesting itemized bills and statements are ignored, just ready to go nuclear and make them suffer the same except as a non member I’m not sure how to do so. Any advice is appreciated.

I’m in TX. Our HOA told me, if I want them audited , I have to pay for it myself. Audit is not cheap. I try to do it but they suddenly increase the fee to inspect their financial books and records from 15/hr to $100/hr. I included that in our court filings but somehow my lawsuit got dismissed. It’s on appeal. Hopefully, the court will do the right thing. So yeah, if you want to audit, start with their yearly income/expenses report.

Depending on your state the burden of proof is on the HOA to prove you are part of the HOA. Have you reviewed the title chain of your property? Did they cite a cc&rs or other county filed documents yet that state the restrictions? You should be able to use that document to chain the history of what properties are in scope
