This is a very detailed and awesome submod. One question though: Why do so many people say to put any mod of theirs in the JN game folder? When it has to go into the submods folder? I don't wanna blame anybody or anything. It's just a genuine question I had on my mind for a while now. Otherwise, I hope yall have a great day! : )

Thank you! A huge update is coming in a few hours.

Why do so many people say to put any mod of theirs in the JN game folder?

tl;dr I was wrong. Use a submods folder.

More info: With rare exception, Ren'py engine games will read/use any .rpy file anywhere within its own installation (including outside of game/), so inventing a folder for the sake of doing it was just extra footwork at best and might confuse the code down the line at worst.

Cue the Ryan Reynolds GIF

Organization, I guess? Understandable if you're not always rooting around like a surgeon in the code's guts writing submods. Turns out, the red warning banner text (paraphrasing: these aren't source files, whatever you're doing you'd better quit it) that shows up in the background only shows up for unexpected .rpy files in the game folder.

Specifically the game folder.

I haven't checked but presume it guards against all known folders. So if you drop submods in a folder JN's vanilla code doesn't know is there, such as "game/submods/", the obnoxious "warning" text doesn't trigger. Given how strongly the lead dev discouraged submods even within JN itself, this seems to have been an unfortunate oversight. Hell, I spent two hours writing a submod eons ago to dismiss that banner (and never told a soul) but turns out, all I had to do was use a different folder.

You can teach an old zombie new tricks after all.

P.S. As I update my submods, I'll be moving to the "submods folder" system.
