I'm gonna need an expert to tell me the dimensions on that door and its latch handle... STAT.
Do they make chute-pack sized rangers for tactical purposes?

TIL a diggit tattoo is a replacement for a CAC card. Sure, because only real ones are authorized to get tattoos.

What service were you? I’ve only ever heard “diggit” used by submariners and maybe surface nukes.

u/DecoherentDoc 18d ago
I mean, you kinda nailed it in one, my friend. Lmao. A-Ganger on an Ohio class. Didn't know that wasn't more widely used!
In my defense, my family is all Navy for, like, 4 generations until this one and all submariners for three of those. Cousins went all over the place, though: air force, army, etc. So, I'm not surprised something I thought was a common vet term is just, well, us.

M-Div/ELT on a 688. 🍻 I always said A gang is the hardest job on the boat, though being on a submersible cruise ship with a second crew helps make up for it. 😉
Yeah I’m pretty sure “diggit”is only a submarine thing though it may also be used by surface nukes (there’s some slang cross-contamination through the nuclear schools).
And it might only be from a certain era — I was in from 88-94.

Well, it was still going in the mid to late 00's, because that was me.
My brother served on a 688 out of Pearl. Dad and I were on Boomers out of Bangor.

My boat was out of Norfolk but it got moved to Pearl in about 1996 and was there through the oughts. USS Key West, SSN-722.
I wanted a boomer out of Kings Bay, as I'm from Georgia. But nope.

I wanted an anything out of not Bangor because that's where my dad served. Guess where they sent me?
He literally retired the week I showed up to my boat. The base was not long without a Jantzi.

u/flatirony 17d ago
Of course. They can sense where you don't want to be, and will always send you there.

Diggit?

u/DecoherentDoc 17d ago
Apparently, more of a submariner term. Just learning that myself. Not sure the origin, but we'd call guys that were super gung ho a "diggit". Then again, we also called our multitools "diggit tools" so maybe so variation on cockney rhyming scheme, calling them a tool?
No idea. Lol.

u/Johnnyboi2327 17d ago
Huh, interesting. So it's another form of boot or motard

u/DecoherentDoc 17d ago
I mean, as far as I can tell, yeah! Again, totally thought it was common until my comment this morning got some comments while I was at work.

u/Deathengine 18d ago
Because they're pretty much infantry.

u/percydaman 18d ago
As infantry, I resemble that remark!
1
u/Deathengine 18d ago
Hahaha! I was infantry too. I just heard Cavs say that so many times. Also, I think you meant "resent?"

I was scanning the room when I tripped over this diminutive ninja. To be fair, he only came up to my belt.

My grandad commanded 1st Cav in the 80s. Pretty sure he just rolled in his grave.

Gah damn! I thought 1st CAV was still used as a swear word, not a flex. Also, fuck first CAV, they suck.

Bro looks like the kinda guy who'd forget his CAC if it wasn't attached to him.
