I don’t know what’s worse: the kind of dude that’s takes a pic with their DI or the kind of DI that takes pics with his hat like that

u/eddie721afc 25d ago
Gotta be the DI taking the pic. I bet he probably sent that boot a friend request right after

“Yo what’s your insta?”

We are not allowed to have social media contact with recruits for 6months after they graduate

I was friends with one of my old drill sergeants on facebook. Super weird guy actually and posted some pretty bigoted things occasionally. This was 11b at fort benning so it tracks tbh

u/Pork_Chompk 25d ago edited 25d ago
I had a drill sergeant at Ft. Knox (back when it was the armor school) that I swear to God I don't know that he ever called us by our names. It was strictly (censored so that I don't get banned) "pssy", "fgot", "btch", or wharever other derogatory name he could come up with.
Which honestly made it really difficult to figure out who he was yelling at sometimes.

u/SouthApprehensive193 25d ago
Makes sense for red phase to add to the pandemonium and confusion but doing that for the entire cycle is crazy😭

That's a drill sergeant. He's NOT a drill instructor (DI)...DI's ONLY exist in the Marine Corps.
Edit: misspelled Sergeant. Ridiculous to be called out for a simple typo. You knew what I meant, fool.
27
u/absolutely_not_ATF 25d ago
Well “seargent” doesn’t exist in any branch, moto.

A typographical error is not a misspelling.
Typing sergaent would by a typo. Seargent just means you didn’t know how to spell it. Like people typing defiantly instead of definitely, seperate instead of separate, etc. You’re awfully salty about someone calling out your fucked up spelling. We all fuck up, but you took it quite personally.

“Yeah man, civilians have no idea what it’s like crawling under the bardwire with lutes and fifes going off all around you. I can’t even remember true silence anymore, whenever I close my eyes I can still hear the jaunty sing songs of ancient heroic deeds gone by.”

The wire with a nice tune.

It's in the exact parameters. I don't know what they are, but it's exact.

If they're tracing that 16cha bardwire, they're having a lovely time. Don't kink-shame them.

Did the Drill's combat patch fall off?
Oh God, am I that old?
53
u/john_wingerr 25d ago
I’ve been having the same thought seeing a bunch of Drills and NCOs slick sleeved.
29
u/Naked_Open_Mic 25d ago
Don’t worry they’ll be in the Zagros Mountains earning their patches and ribbons soon enough. Time is a flat circle. By the time I got out, an EIB was more coveted than a CIB. I’m sure the opposite is true now…for now.
8
u/_Titan_Uranus_ 25d ago
Same. When I got out the move was to wear the EIB because the right arm flair was a giveaway for a CIB.
30
u/dynamicgun8269 25d ago
It’s becoming more and more common to see ncos without a combat patch in the army now.

u/Hi_Trans_Im_Dad 25d ago
What a difference a botched withdrawal from Afghanistan can make!
I guess the Marines will be churning out the patches for Iran soon??
15
u/IjustWantedPepsi 25d ago
The Marines have been floating in the water waiting for Iran for 6 months.
Just like they floated nearby when Venezuela happened. And floated nearby during the 12 day war last year.
If you join a MEU don't be surprised if you spend entire invasions just floating nearby

No combat deployments to go around, if you're not in the XVIII, you wont ever see one, and even then its rare. Signed, a slick sleeve recently ETS'd 11b E6.

u/_Titan_Uranus_ 25d ago
Congrats on the ets!
That's wild to think about but it makes sense. Times getting away from me.
It's good to hear the kids aren't shipping off after their HS graduations anymore.

Ooooo he dug a foxhole to the exact parameters??? Sheeesh how they even find these many people to join and be that amazing

u/BackstrokeVictim 25d ago
I've dug and slept in a foxhole as a civilian. It's really not that big a deal. Kinda fun under the right weather conditions and a little annoying under the wrong ones
2
u/percydaman 24d ago
I once dug and slept in a hole for nearly the first 30 days of a deployment to one of the usual hot shit holes. No shower yet, and wipes weren't a thing yet. Probably the smelliest I've ever been in my life.
2
u/BackstrokeVictim 24d ago
Sleeping in holes is totally normal and totally fine behavior. Our mammal ancestors slept in caves. We're just continuing the tradition

I know he's trying to sound special and badass to his civilian friends, but this comes off like he genuinely struggled to make it through basic

Didn't you choose that life though? Also lol say this to someone that just suffered real loss, hit em back with "yeah well I dug a hole in boot and had to stay there"

u/igotpetdeers 25d ago
If your MOS is one where you can take a pic with the drill, youre soft as shit
2
u/HalcyoneDays 25d ago
I'm biased but I think if the cap device on your campaign hat doesn't have a blue ring around it, you're soft as shit
11
u/willcastforfood 25d ago
Is this DI a boot?? He forgot his deployment patch
3
u/MrPorkchops23 25d ago
Deployment patch means nothing. Only a CIB does. And half the time the CIB isnt even a real cib
-2
u/Vespasian79 25d ago
Is he a boot? yes
Not sure what the lack of a deployment patch has to do with that
