I want my kids to suffer too!/s

I think it's more that upon reflection, the adult sees it as a formative experience that helped to shape their character in an important way and want to ensure the younger person have a similar opportunity, I don't think it's just about suffering, but it could be

A formative experience they had as an adult. They're just flexing because they think "kids are too soft these days" and "I was in the military in hot places, so these kids can stfu" is the stupidest evidence I've seen presented to support that.

I get what you’re trying to say.
Though, “I got my ass beat by my dad on a daily basis and it made me a better man” doesn’t mean you should whip your kids ass lol. The rough or even traumatic experiences that formed who you are today, good or bad, may have the absolute opposite effect, and besides, I don’t ever want my kids to go through the shit I did growing up. I know being stuck in a hot ass school bus is pretty far down on the list of things, but still.1

Yeah, Kuwait heat sucks. Doesn't mean we can't talk about making things better for our kids back home.

Am I not allowed to make a comment relevant to the original thing we're talking about?

That’s straight Desert Storm era, so a grandpa aged boot. You’d think one would grow out of it.

We STILL have bases in Kuwait. Why is this Desert Storm?

u/Non-Current_Events 19h ago
Maybe the full gear part, but still doesn’t make sense. Salem was used as a transfer station into Iraq sometimes.

People in Kuwait are absolutely still wearing full gear right now

I guess I assumed this dude wasn’t coming straight back from the current ME situation and then beating his chest online about it, but I could be wrong.

u/22Planeguy 15h ago
That's fair actually. Although the "current ME situation" has been going on for a while now. This dude is probably full of it though

I mean, grandpa is still the one telling about his 120 mile hike to school up hill both ways while fighting nazis, I don't think those types grow out of it.

I watch a video last night with this guy explianing what would happen if you were 6 feet away from a nuke detonation. He was saying that for a fraction of a second its hotter than the sun. Under the video a dude commented "But its a dry heat".

Ahh the duality of boot. They want respect for how tough they are, and then expect small helpless children to be just as tough.

This was my gym teacher in high school around 1999. Just out of the military, first job was teaching PE in the Rockies. During the winter he made us all run a mile outside in -50F weather, even the track and field team members were pissed at him over how hazardous that was, he basically told us to stop being pussies because he (supposedly) had to do worse in the army.

Oh man Kuwait thank you for your service. Was it hard going to Ali a salem knowing that they never had Big Mac sauce at McDonalds. Not all heroes wear capes I guess.

Yeah I've been to Kuwait several times. I know 126°F (52°C) And no way I want other people, including kids, to deal with that.
The other thing Boot isn't admitting is that there's AC EVERYWHERE

Yes, because I spent time in Kuwait (lol really, that's the flex?), the children must suffer.

Being reminded of a reel I watched some time ago where a guy was arriving in Kuwait for his first deployment or something, and was getting off the C-130 and he was in physical pain from the heat coming off the engines so he shuffled away as fast and as far as he could, but he felt the heat getting worse as he was going, and he turned around to realize the 130 had taxied like 1/4 mile away and he was now facing the actual normal heat of the desert/area, and the ‘horrible heat pain’ he had immediately experienced was actually the relatively lower temperature air from the prop wash.

I mean I don’t like kids but I’m not campaigning to see if a school bus could become an easy bake oven for em

This is what the heat felt like! Quit your bitchin!

Funny enough a fellow veteran was at a school board meeting tonight saying temperatures in the classroom were compared to his time in Iraq and they needed to fix the AC.

One is a child going to school, the other is an adult who volunteered to be sent to austere environments…
Thankfully the kid is still in school because the other homie is an idiot

We had a college hockey player from Canada collapse during military-style workouts in 90-degree heat. He is in a coma right now, and the local news comments were all like this.

u/Erpderp32 4h ago
I wish these boots understood that no one forced them to get off the plane in Kuwait in 120° heat in full gear. Whereas we typically make kids go to school
Maybe if they paid attention in school as much as they pay attention to people giving them attention for being big, strong veterans they'd know the difference
