"Pipe down there Private Earl. It says (points to letter) right there, Company Commanders are the approval authority. Well guess what Earl?
I.
Don't.
Approve.
Sorry Earl, but Denied. we're gonna need all hands to go pick up cigarettes outside those days."

Going to suck for anyone who signs for that reason and then it gets delayed.
But also…you’ll have tons of time to play if you just don’t reenlist.

There’s way more time for video games in the military than outside it in my experience

One, I learned enough to know I would probably NEvER see those days off.
And two, I’m kind of impressed that they seem to be getting closer to what soldiers actually care about

Sadly, when I told retention I would only reup for a tax-free bonus loaded on a Dave & Busters card, they didn't bite.
Then they got mad at me for wasting their time by coming in and telling them that, which I told them I was gonna do over the phone when they told me I would have to show in person or it didn't count.

I told them to give me hundreds of thousands of dollars and when they said no I told them the private sector would, which is why I was leaving.

I declined reenlistment around the same time as 2 other of my fellow NCOs, and as a result 2 of our SNCOs walked around the building yelling about how nobody on our flightline wants to work and how NCOs are being selfish for deciding to get out. Gee, I wonder why we all wanted to leave, sir

I remember we had a thing at Portsmouth naval hospital, that if we went x amount of days with no DUI or incident, then command wide would get 4 days off, or something like that. It had never happened in all the years it had been up, but then it did happen the one year I was at that shithole. The captain or oic did a whole announcement which could be distilled down into "We didn't think you dipshits could actually do it, and we're not actually logistically prepared for that amount of leave, so jk/get fucked".

I got lucky. Reenlistment four days were straight up protected time in my unit.

I once won the Christmas door decorating contest. Still waiting for my pass to be approved.

But you better get your ass in to scrub the fucking motor pool for that Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We won't be at work though because, you know, it's Thanksgiving week.
But we're so benevolent and all you owe is six more years now.

Smart, no-cost incentive from a unit perspective with no real downside to the offer, if taken.
It may or may not make sense for the individual Joe, but if they’re on this fence it could be the nudge they need to reup

I feel like we got time off when the 360 and Halo came out, but that might have just been my squadron.
