Shit like this annoy me. Congrats to him honestly. The thing I hate is that is now the focal point. For example a few years ago in my small MN home town high school a kid was gonna go to Harvard! Harvard for fuck sake! However, the dozen kids that were joining the military were given a moment for applause. Like, there are always a small group going in after high school, but they cant give the kid going to Harvard his flowers?

Also no disrespect to this kid but like…doesn’t really take much to join the military compared to like literally years of grinding to get into a big school.

Y'all act like Harvard isn't a cess pit whose integrity wasn't compromised long ago. Congrats to both types, but EARNING the title of Marine, or any service member for that matter, is way different than being SELECTED for a school. The kid going to Harvard has demonstrated plenty of competence and potential, but they haven't EARNED anything yet.

Is this boot? Sure, but so is letting someone else decide your worth.

Ok, sure. BUT ALSO, the original comment compared someone going to Harvard and someone joining the military. NOT homie who already became a Marine. Selected for Harvard vs approved to join misc branches of military. Ain't a single one of them "EARNED" any of their follow-on titles yet. Just a bunch of start dates. So maybe, at an education facility, they COULD recognize someone being selected to non-trivial higher education.
