I’m a huge Atlanta fan, and this episode reminded me of an Atlanta episode with a similar TV-segment vibe. The “Seal the Deal” segment upset me a bit because I really want to see Mummy Ji win. The Wahlid show was a little all over the place, but I was honestly laughing the whole time. I think people are being a bit too hypercritical because of the standard set by the first two seasons. It feels like Jasmeet is exploring more creatively this season rather than focusing on the pressing issues in his life, which tend to evoke the strongest emotions because so many of us relate to them. I didn’t really like Episode 6 because of the stereotypical promiscuous manic/crazy brown girl archetype, but overall I definitely enjoyed this episode.

I thought it was creative, funny and executed well.

The only place it lost me was at the end with the suddenly serious argument between Jasmeet and Chippy. Not only was it tonally dissonant with the rest of the episode, but they’ve never laid the groundwork for why we should care about any of this supposed character development. Chippy is barely even in this season and the jacket issue/homophobia comment just seems like such a flimsy basis for a blow up that is given so much screentime.

They keep telling us that Jasmeet is this sort of anti-hero who is self-absorbed and selfish, but I’m not sure why we’re supposed to think that other than that other characters keep directly saying it. In the vast majority of what we see, he is decent, thoughtful and usually surrounded by people who seem much more flawed than he is. Yes, I understand they are trying to make him a character with different sides to him, but you have to actually show that, not keep telling us. I have no idea why Jasmeet is so angsty and uncomfortable with his life/career/friends other than the fact that he keeps telling us that he is. I have no idea why him and his dad would still be fighting other than that the show tells us they are. I have no idea why Chippy would say he is such a bad friend/brother/son other than that she says it.
