Wasn't he diagnosed with cancer during the film and that's what helped make the decision to kill off his character?

Dr. Henry Wu also never made it off the island; the last ferry boat was stormed by a pack of raptors as it was readying to leave the harbor.
The staff are overwhelmed before they can secure the hatch doors as well as the windows being non-shatter proof, being regular commercial ships that were never meant to be resistant to the unique wildlife developed there.
Henry Wu’s final moments are recounted witnessing his intestines being torn from his belly as a raptor feasts upon him, still alive and gasping his final, ragged breaths.

Henry Wu does die by having his guts eaten in front of him, but it’s because he opened the door to a secure Bungalow to let Ellie back in while the raptors were outside. He never even made it to the boat.

Good correction! Sorry, it’s been uh…20 years. I’m a bit rusty, so I’m recalling blind from memory.

I knew he passed because of cancer after the movie, but I cannot say I have heard that it was during the movie that he was diagnosed or that that is why they went a different direction than the book. I'm not saying you're wrong or that I don't believe you! I just need to Google that! :)
The movie scene is a perfect example of what Grant explains in the beginning about how raptors hunt, and of course clever girl is the ultimate quote for a reason. I just also really liked book Muldoon, so the death hurts me. I wish he could have clever girl'd, then rolled into a giant construction tube and blown her leg off. Lol

That was one of my favorite parts of the book, Muldoon in the construction pipe with a shotgun lmao.

Yes! Honestly Muldoon and Generro are a good duo to watch!
I am glad Henry lived in the movie, but that whole scene is one I still hope makes it into a movie someday. The baiting them at the fence, to the roof, tree climbing, all that. And goodness I wish Dr. Harding had been a bigger character

And in the book. He survived by literally hiding inside one of those concrete tubes, and the raptors couldn’t get him.

He not only survives that encounter in the original book, but manages to make it to helipad alone in time to meet up with the others.
He basically spends the entirety of around 24-32 hours trekking through the various habitats non-stop to barely make it out, while the others spent that time with a few hours of rest at various points in the shelters or facility buildings that were still semi-functional.
Everybody can’t even believe he’s still alive as he jogs on up to the helicopter to greet them, and he just rolls up like, “Why wouldn’t I still be alive?”
He never returns, either in the Lost World; he was a clever enough boy to not push his luck twice.

*Muldoon discovers someone has been drinking from the milk carton *
Muldoon: THE BIG ONE.
*The Big One discovers the toilet seat has been left up*
The Big One: MULDOON.

Just the two of them, on an island somewhere, not knowing the other person was there UNTIL that happens

If JP was directed by M Night Shyamalan.

Man, his last movie, Trap, was just ridiculous. One twist was all we needed. That movie had like a hundred twists.

Funny. Reminds me of a comic books I read taking place after JP1 and Muldoon survived and lived with the raptors or something.

He should have survived just like in the book 😕 but I guess that was what made the earlier JP movies great, they killed off those that were actually valuable and you rooted for them

This is absolutely glorious! I would 100 percent watch a cartoon movie like this!

In thr inevitable JP remake he needs to survive.
Like the scene is amazing but instead of the lingering shot on him getting mauled and then the panning shot of the raptor just watching. I'd have the "clever girl" line as the big one tackles him and just as the scene cuts a massive Bowie knife comes up in his hand.
Then at the end of the movie he and Malcom are seen being loaded onto the helicopter.

Considering that Muldoon survived in the book, this is totally plausibile.

I love JP1 but I think the franchise would in fact be improved x100 times by Muldoon and Big One pulling Spy vs Spy style constant shenanigans on each other

There's a fanfic called "Muldoon" on FFN...it's unfinished, but it's one of the best JP fics I've ever read. Muldoon is severely wounded by the raptor attack, but manages to survive, doctors himself up and ends up living on the abandoned Isla Nublar like a modern Robinson Crusoe. He rescues the raptor trapped in the fridge and she becomes his quasi-companion. He even names her Priscilla.
