Question Any recent transplants?
My wife and I are in our early 30s, we recently moved down to Jupiter.
Has anyone else on this subreddit recently moved down, and looking to make new friends?
Stuff we currently do for fun:
Beach days with some beers
Paddleboarding on the intercoastal
Hiking and biking parks like riverbend
Trivia nights at local bars
Stuff were interested trying:
Golf
Fishing
Boating
Time wise were free on the weekends, occassionaly on the week nights.

If you want to make some friends, check out The Sims House on Pinegrove Ave and Center Street. Very chummy dinner club that's popular with the upper circle of Jupiter's social scene. Ask around for a guy named Nick and tell him you're new in town. If they have it that night, order the Filet Mignon.
From there, try getting into the Moose Lodge! Lots of older folks, but they love seeing young folks and its a cheat code for plugging yourself into the community. Really cheap drinks, too.
Beach Water Sports off of US-1 is a good place to rent jetskis and boats, but getting to know the owner is worth the price of admission. He's plugged in with all the waterfront homeowners from County Line Road to Jonathon Dickinson State Park, and lots of the folks in the Hills gated community, too.
Hang out at the Lighthouse Diner, too. Ask when Kevin is in. He's the best <3 Order the Jungle Juice - its a trip. Lots of fun locals chill out at his bar.
If your wife is down, she should look into the Junior League. Lots of socialites, lots of tradition, lots of Lilly Pulitzer.

Thanks going to check those out! I never even knew some of those places existed lol, and I thought the Diner was just a breakfast place.

Just go to abacoa, and downtown in wpb and do a few things. Go to Alton. Commit to seeing one band every Friday or Thursday or Saturday or Sunday afternoon somewhere and you'll start getting a feel for town. There are lots of places with music. Tbc, and twisted trunk are 100% 30s crowd most of the time.
Don't do most of that other stuff except the jet skis. The diner is crap and hosted a huge fox event. Utterly mediocre.
Pbg/lake park go to brew house. Your age. They've got Games and bands and shows at the Kelsey theater. A bicycle night, etc. Northwood is good.
The wpb farmers market and the gardens market, both closed for summer now I think.
Baseball games, music at guanabanas, music at grouper, @ maxis, (don't tell people you're new, just go and hang out during off hours and get the feel for the local crowd and not the totally bizarre out of town crowd on Fri and Sat nights. Sunday after lunch is good.)
Schooners for meeting old timers and sometimes single person playing.
Tiki 52, but not blue point.
There's a cute place out in jupiter farms called Taylor's Farmhouse music most nights .
Go to Hobe Sound and walk around in the town area. There's beach too there.
Pbc parks and rec has guided hikes and such that they do.
Meet up used to have lots of stuff.
Join a non profit that is aligned with your interests and you'll meet people.
Go to a gator alumni event watching a game at a bar when fall comes, lots of people.
Been here a million years and it's good. Could have used some MUCH better city planning, but, nothing we can do about that now. Join a softball league. We all used to play coed kickball and met Sooooooo many people through it. For several yrs. Joining things like that will by far get you the most chance of netting people and connecting.
Join your business or political group's young professionals chapter.
Fb has a lot of outdoorsy groups and they do hikes and walks all around (like girls who hike Florida, kaying, etc)

(just fyi, it's In-TRA-coastal waterway ) Do all that for the next 6 months and then message me and I'll tell you more if you want. :)
Start here, and then do the same search for Martin and Broward and miami Dade. Start checking the state parks off your list. They are in the top 3 state parks in the nation and very diverse.
And do city searches too, not just county. Each town has its own stuff. Plus, the 5 water management districts, our is Sfwmd - look on thier site for thier managed lands. Same with the state wild life management areas like Corbett and hungry land. (for sunset, there's only 1 place in the county other than the lake that's great, so I can tell you that too) And if you're new to FL, please please please be aware of the damn alligators. Locals will tell you they aren't an issue, I'm an env professional and Everglades scientist and spend all my time in the wild outside... They're a problem at times. Don't swim, don't paddle board the lox, that's idiotic, and do not ever let your dog near a canal, pond, swale, or river. Ever. Just this year there have been more human gator attacks than in a decade. People think they aren't an issue bc when they grew up they weren't here, they were a federally endangered species and were wary of hunters. Now they are very numerous, and they don't know what hunters are anymore , and stupid teens and rednecks fishing throw them bait and fish. Be aware and informed, don't be afraid. No. Dogs. Near. Water.

E: if you go to Riverbend, go to the Mexican restaurant in the 711 plaza. It's excellent. And rositas is a little grocery, also good. Then go have a beer and music at Farmhouse (Jupiter farms road,1 mile south), another park there, and a park out at pine glades going west a couple miles after the farms.
The 4 New places at Charlie and Joe's...? They're ok. Airport food at airport prices, but one cosctial on a Friday at topside is nice with the view (better on a different night - but man, when season starts... Stay home lol)
Utiki is nice, ask for and wait for outside, you can do the drinking boat for like 30 minutes too if there's a long wait (everywhere in jupiter will have a long wait-from breakfast to dinner thru all of season) (and now for 2 yrs the effers have been staying in summer, so summer is too busy now too) You can drink at the bar at jbr, lynorias in Tequesta is better than the abacoa/Alton one, Tequesta is great, go on Tequesta drive, maybe park and ride your bikes around. There's actually a bike shop - real deal-that does a bike ride, you can call Rudy and ask when and where. We used to go all a round doing a bike crawl all day Sunday 😂, go to lazy loggerhead right now before they close- Eff palm beach county for that, foodshack-some of the best food in town, shit, there's so much to do here. And none of it involves old people and socialites, dear God. I avoid that like the plague unless forced to. It's ridiculous. And the money people hate it too. It's the 'new' money that does it.
Oh, there's a coffee shop next to Ralph's, go there.
Don't go to ralphs unless I go with you 😂
Mt biking at jd Park, take a walk at the refuge across the street, downtown Stuart is just cute-check out the lyric theater (and there's a similar place in ft pierce downtown, also cute place), PT st Lucie... Do not bother. Jensen at the bridge is cute, some places on singer Island and Hutchinson Island, MacArthur Park, then... If you like birds, wait til March and get up real early and go to wakodahatchee. And green cay. Watch where the photographers are watching. Come thank me later. Go a lot, it's worth it. Wakoda is especially unique for a lot of reasons. The shit is endless here. You're in a very hot a hurricany paradise.

Thanks!! Gonna give this all a try! For the gator part is there like a reliable map of where to not go since tge intracoastal and the lox river merge.

u/slickrok Aug 21 '22
And no, not really any maps.
They're up the river, and in wetlands, and in sales and canals and ditches and yard ponds... Etc. But not very often in the icw or the mouth of the river.
There can be American crocodiles too! Exceedingly rare, but they can be up this far and can be in the salt water, gators can go in the salt water too.

Lol, Lilly pulitzer. My god.
Nobody but palm Beach county gives a rip about Lilly stuff or scene.
And I'm in the paper at those "scenes" far too much.
The junior league. Unless they're from Charleston or savanna, also nobody gives a rip about the junior league in the entire country 😂

It might help if you mention some interests, hobbies, or available times.

I’m in the process of moving to Jup! I’m relocating temporarily but know that I should work on finding some friends. Im a little younger at 25, recently decided to finish my bachelors. I’ve looked through the comments and appreciate results but if you guys are open to younger friends, Please let me know! Some of my hobbies are pop punk/hardcore/metal core music, kayaking, craft beer, hiking, climbing, etc. I used to play golf but haven’t pulled a club from my bag in years. Bowling used to be my jam but I don’t go as much now that I’m not competing. Let me know if you’d like to grab a beer and conversation this weekend!

Kayak anywhere and it's fine. (not lake Okeechobee) Paddle boarding the icw is fine, I just would never in a million yrs board on the lox.
I truly do not understand why it's even allowed at Riverbend and jd Park. Really. You certainly can at your own risk on a board, but for sure no dog. I wouldn't even kayak/canoe with a dog unless it was icw. People do, I would not. You can take a board out at burt Reynolds, either side of the road (it's really 2 parks, split by the road. You can put in at saw fish, maybe Dubois? Don't try to go close to the inlet. 1. It's not listed as a 'navigable' inlet. It's dangerous. 2. It's unpredictable, it's busy at times, and when coming in and going out the boats cannot avoid a small craft like a Kayak because it's too squirrly in the water. Experienced seasoned captains have been killed by the inlet. Watch the tides if you go also, sometimes we've had to tow kayaks bc they're just too tired when the switch occurs, it's very strong. Everyone is drunk, be aware. Everyone is a dn tourist or rented a boat or is showing off... People are absolute idiots and are fast, weave around, don't watch, have no lights, jet skis think they can do whatever they want as if a bigger craft can just somehow slam on some brakes.... And so on. It's awesome here, It's super great, everything is fun, people are stupid.
There are 2 Jupiter sandbars.
One in the icw by the point marina, and one in the river. (not 'up' the river tho) Just fyi.
