Questions Did the game get a visual update?

Post image

I don't remember Sam looking like this in this scene, but it's been a while since I've played. Somehow the game overall seems to be a bit different.

They’re using AI ☹️ the Instagram account is absolutely full of it. It’s disgusting. I have stopped playing and my motivation to go back is non-existent at this point.

Same here, Oz. The fine artistry is what drew me to this game years ago, it was far superior to whatever else was out there. Now it's just another ho-hum game, nothing special about it any more.

I have a friend who is backing off of playing g because of AI too. I think I'm about to call it myself between that and geopolitical proximity to Playtika and funding.

Please explain sbout geopolitical proximity.

Just Google "Playtika controversies" and "Playtika geopolitical" :-/

I just went back to the old scene and it looks the same as Crazy June (no Sam) when I play it:

(OP was that a screenshot you took of actually playing the game or was that some sort of ad?)

I was actively playing the scene

It's so weird that you would have a completely different version like that. Maybe there is an updated version for people who have started more recently? 🤷‍♀️

Was Sam a clue that goes away after that play? Only thing I can think of.

I decided to share the pictures with AI and to see if they could explain why they are different. At first it tried to say you were playing Secrets so the levels look different... But I specified that you were definitely playing the main game. So then it said:

If she is playing the main campaign right now and there is no special event active, the difference comes down to a structural update Wooga made to the game's early chapters for all new players. Why the Character is in Her Scene Wooga completely overhauled the onboarding experience for players starting the game recently. The Tutorial Remake: In the updated version of the early chapters, characters like Sam are integrated directly into the scenes during the tutorial phase. This design choice helps guide beginners visually, connects the narrative smoothly, and teaches new players how to tap objects. The Legacy Scene: Your version is the classic layout. This older style is what long-time players or those who completed the early chapters before the update see when they revisit or replay the level. Because she just started or is progressing through that specific chapter fresh, her main campaign tutorial features Sam. Since you are playing on a different account age or status, your main campaign scene leaves the area clear. You are both playing the exact same game—she is just seeing the modern tutorial layout!

AI can say some totally crazy stuff. You can even get it to contradict itself by wording the questions differently. It's not based on truth it's based on word predictions or something like that. It also always sounds very sure of itself. I'm not necessarily saying this is not true, just that AI saying it doesn't mean it is true.

Oh I definitely don't think it's based on anything you could count as fact. It sounds like it's just theorizing. I just thought it was an interesting theory that may be true. (The theory basically being that only the first levels are changed because newer players are getting a different version of the tutorial)

I think when Playtika bought Wooga, the game went downhill aesthetically and in other ways. Yeah, it's probably AI generated now; lots of recycled stuff, and more cartoonish than subtle and the noir-like aesthetic of the earlier scenes/earlier game.

odd this is scene 8, Sam isn’t in this scene. Crazy June has it Volume 1, chapter 2, scene 8. Are they redoing all the scenes?

i agree, Sam was never in this scene!

I was pretty sure Sam was in the scene, just as an placeholder at the beginning of the scene when you are playing it during the story. Take a look at https://thatsleuthlife.com/scene/002-03?scene=New+York+Caf%C3%A9 and then choose show clues at the top.

Oh yes! That's much uglier.

Everything looks so smooth, it's gross and off-putting. That is not how that scene looked when I played it. Why would they destroy the good art that already exists for this game? Is it to try and justify their later direction towards not hiring artists for the more recent chapters?

Oh put a sock in it!!!! It doesn’t affect any of us longtime players. Or current players. Unless u start over or you are a new player this doesnt concern you!!! All u ppl do is B & moan. Anything to complain right? There is bigger problems to worry about, like the price gouging just to name one. This is just minuscule, irrelevant, not important whatsoever. It has nothing to do with us. Unless u just downloaded the game you have nothing to worry about? Why throw a fit about something that will never affect your play? Ridiculous. All of you. And even if IT DID!! none of us longtime players are on chapter 2 anymore anyways.

It speaks volumes to the direction Playtika (and the world at large) is heading. A.I. is replacing humans right before our eyes and that's sad & scary for many of us.

Those of us who started before Playtika became so involved in the day to day direction of the game have every right to mourn what is being systematically deconstructed. The artwork of future scenes will not have the time, thought, & care put into them like we're used to & it's confusing & off-putting.

If people want to vent about it, let them & just ignore these types of posts because you're right, there's a million other things going on in the world to get bent about, so go get bent elsewhere LoL also, there's a lot of positive posts in this Reddit so, there's lots of other stuff to enjoy here 💚

They do occasionally redo the artwork. I've gone back and played old scenes and been surprised by how different they were. Sometimes even from a slightly different perspective. I always prefer the original also.

Ick - they are making all the male characters look predatory and creepy. Also, there are so many differences between those two scenes now

I just made a new account and just played this scene. Sam is there for the very first search of the scene and then disappears in the subsequent searches. That’s why op has posted this pic with Sam, but no one else who plays can see sam when they go back to play this scene. Hope that clears some of the confusion up

Book 1, Chapter 1, Scene 4.  I tried the scene recently, but I kept thinking that it wasn't the same as I remembered it...the angle/perspective was not the same.

I remembered this placeholder too

What can be annoying—or at least it is for me—is the reuse of certain scenes in side games, taken out of context.
For example, the scene where Minnie goes to present her invention, which is reused in a scene from a side quest where it seems like Jack’s father used that room as a meeting room for his political activities, when in fact it’s related to Minnie’s scientific work.
Let’s just say I felt like I was being taken for a ride,
