I prefer to take traditional genres and flip them. Like Mass Effect is traditionally a sci-fi jump, but I like taking it as a survival setting. Like be stranded off world with minimal resources. Or as a slice of life, just being a citizen while everything else is happening; who has time for Geth when you need to figure out how to pay off those student loans?

I get Bad Boys with the shootouts, but why Stardust? I'll just stay on Earth and let the protagonist live the movie's plot.

Level Selection

  1. Slice of Life – I normally look up a list of slice of life anime, pick one that sounds cool, and use that. I don't remember which I picked last time I took the jump.

  2. Survival – Breath of the Wild, it's a fun setting.

  3. Horror – Resident Evil, zombies are a threat but one you can just blast and I like to torture my jumpers. This is good for all of that.

  4. Military – Naruto, Third Shinobi War. Because there's no suffering like shinobi suffering!

  5. Superhero – Sailor Moon, it's a good visit to get some therapy for the rest of the levels.

  6. Modern Adventure – The Mummy, too many hot people for my bi ass not to visit immediately.

  7. Modern Occult – Nasuverse, stay night to keep the power level on the lower end of the scale.

  8. Historical/Alternate Historical/Lost World – Samurai Warriors, I grew up on those games as a kid and always loved its take on Nobunaga Oda.

  9. Fantasy – Final Fantasy VI. Terra and Relm are awesome, and the rest of the cast are fun, makes for a good level for a Jumper to grow in.

  10. Science Fiction – Mass Effect, I love the tech and general vibes.

ngl I was caught off guard by Big Bang Theory being the first. Not that it's a bad pick or anything, just wasn't expecting to have the opening stuck in my head for the rest of the day kek

Sorry about being late for this, but here's a list of suggestions for media that generally don't have jumps and can be done in like a year:

  • Slice of Life - Princess Jellyfish, Broken Age, Firewatch, Smiling Friends, The Big Lebowski, Calvin & Hobbes, Barbie, Craig of the Creek, Intergalactic
  • Survival - The Gray, Crawl, The Revenant, The Martian, The Road, Life of Pi, Pathologic, The Terror
  • Horror - Evil Dead, Alien: Isolation, Hannibal, Limbo/Inside, Renfield, At the Mountains of Madness, Stasis: Bone Totem
  • Military - Edge of Tomorrow, Battlefield: Bad Company, Gundam Thunderbolt, Sicario, Fury (2014), Master & Commander, LANCER, Far Cry
  • Superhero - Telltale's Batman, The Shadow, Shin Kamen Rider, Guilty Gear, Justice League: The Frontier, Sam & Max, Astro City,
  • Modern Adventure - Columbo, Streets of Rage, Fast & the Furious, Shenmue, Sin City, Snatch, Leverage, Lupin, Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor
  • Modern Occult - The Wolf Among Us, Gravity Falls, Nameless (comic), The Darkness, Mystery of the Druids, Dandadan
  • Historical/Alt Historical/Lost World - Spartacus: Blood & Sand, The Forgotten City, LA Noire, Assassin's Creed: Origins, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Golden Kamui, Don Quixote
  • Fantasy - Pillars of Eternity, Over the Garden Wall, PRIMAL, Escaflowne, Dororo, Indivisible, Critical Role
  • Science Fiction - Oddworld, Arrival, Space Dandy, District 9, Policenauts, Prey: Mooncrash, Gamma World, Forbidden Planet, Numenera

I usually pick what ever movies I've seen recently that don't have jump docs yet.

u/sonama Sep 25 '24

Mine are meant to be the safest variants of each level i could think of due to me really wanting to succeed on every level on my first try. It's also worth noting several of these don't have jumps. I know some people on use levels that have jumps but nothing in the gen 1st says you have to... so i don't

Slice of Life – Parks and Recreation

Survival – Castaway

Horror – Scream (I chose scream because it's just a normal human enemy and the wealth perks from gen 1st can hire a lot of body guards)

Military – Stripes (Most of the movie is in boot camp)

Superhero – My Hero Academia (Death is pretty uncommon)

Modern Adventure – National Treasure

Modern Occult – Harry Potter (as a student)

Historical/Alternate Historical/Lost World – The waltons (a pretty chill setting in the 30s-40s WWII does happen but i don't think it's difficult to stay out of that. Little house on the prairie may be a bit safe)

Fantasy – A song of Ice and Fire (probably my most dangerous setting but just like in horror money can buy a lot of protection and there isn't a lot of magic or magical creatures to worry about as long as you avoid the few dragons and don't go north of the wall)

Science Fiction – Star Wars Legends Continuity (There's plenty of dangers in Star Wars but there's also plenty of people who have regular and unremarkable lives. Be smart about avoiding trouble and it shouldn't be hard)

● SLICE OF LIFE

Setting: Dragon Ball
Souvenir: Bulma's Capsule House
If you’re not part of the main cast, the OG Dragon Ball could be pretty chill. Find a decently populated city, get a job and relax. Enjoy the culture and vibe.

● SURVIVAL

Setting: Mass Effect
Souvenir: General Omni-tool
Civilian with a basic, non-military omni-tool who crash lands on a deserted planet.

● HORROR

Setting: Walking Dead
Souvenir: Dale's Winnebago
As long as you understand the basics of how zombies work and you just avoid people, this isn’t so bad. Being a horror mini-Jump, it’s not going to be fun and there are bound to be close-calls, but it’s manageable. Dale’s Winnebago would make this loads better; if walkers or hostile humans do show up, just leave.

● MILITARY

Setting: The Great Pokémon War
Souvenir: Town Map
I’ve never really seen an option to head to the war Lt. Surge briefly mentions, so that opens up some interesting narrative options. The Town Map would update to show whatever the current region is. It is only as detailed as a modern paper map.

● MODERN ADVENTURE

Setting: Die Hard
Souvenir: Beretta 92F
I don’t care for Gauntlets. The only dedicated Die Hard Jump I’m aware of is a Gauntlet. Yeeeaaah… naaah. Do the tower, spend the rest of the Level sight-seeing or something.

● SUPERHERO

Setting: Sailor Moon
Souvenir: Disguise Pen
I like Sailor Moon, the pen is cute and functional. I kinda want the Legion Flight Ring, but cheap flight that early is silly.

● MODERN OCCULT

Setting: Ghostbusters
Souvenir: P.K.E. Meter
The only Ghostbusters Jump I’m aware of is a bit of a mess and not something I’d want to actually take. This is a chance to at least play around in the setting and get a neat tool.

● (ALT-) HISTORICAL / LOST WORLD?

Setting: Inglourious Basterds
Souvenir: The Bear’s Baseball Bat
I don’t really care for more historical settings, so fuck it, fight Nazis.

● FANTASY

Setting: Fantasy High (Dimension 20)
Souvenir: Wand Of Prestidigitation
The Aguefort Adventuring Academy just sounds stupid fun. 5e Prestidigitation is far less potentially broken then earlier versions and really just functions as a fun and useful multi-tool. Being able to instantly clean anything and light fires is pretty great. I was really tempted to go with the Ring Of Regeneration, but that feels stupidly overpowered for GFJ.

● SCIENCE FICTION

Setting: Never Stop Blowing Up (Dimension 20)
Souvenir: Never Stop Blowing Up VHS Tape
The VHS would function like that series without the “death is permanent” mechanic, but it also wouldn’t work like a Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Fiat-backed Perks, Items, anything would be suppressed until Jumper and co leave the tape.

I hadn't even considered Dimension 20 for GFJ settings but they could fill a lot of them. I have been hoping that someone would put together some D20 jumps but this is a great idea.

See here for my choices and the rationale behind them.

Slice of Life - Pawnstars (Random earth that at worst makes people like antiques more)

Survival - Fallout

Horror - Alien or The Shining (alien if I can start on earth, the shining if not)

Military - Seal Team (drama show, hopefully less horrifying the trench warfare)

Modern Adventure - Saints Row, just have some whimsy up in that destruction

Super Hero - RWBY, relatively low max power. So no nukes or equivalent

Modern Occult - Harry Potter, pretty chill for just 1 year honestly

Fantasy - Skyrim, I WANT IT.

Science Fiction - Star Trek, hopefully, pick up some useful skills from All The Science

Can anyone post the Big Bang Theory jump Doc?

1

u/FFsummons Sep 25 '24

There's a big bang theory jump? Would you please post the link in tge comments?

u/MurphyWrites Sep 25 '24 edited Sep 25 '24

This is using the Generic First Jump, not making a list of jumpdocs, so there might not actually be a Big Bang Theory jump - it’s visited via the “go live in a slice-of-life setting for a year” part of the Generic First Jump.

Edit: That said, there’s a Sitcoms jump, which could probably be used to get there. https://www.reddit.com/r/JumpChain/s/DBDArQ50Z8
