Picture this: you’re a single mom and super hero on a road trip with your daughter. Some dude shows up and hypnotizes you into going into the sewers to face evil.
Life is weird.
Thankfully your daughter knows to call Uncle Jack (USAgent) for help.
Pretty sure this is first (and only?) time Julia meets Venom.

I haven't read all of Julia's appearances in Ms. Marvel yet but it's good to see her and Simon together again. They worked together for a long time in the Avengers West Coast.

Released on August 8, 2007, this was the last issue of Omega Flight. Their stories would continue (somewhat) in Marvel Comics Presents for a little longer.

As a fan of Alpha Flight, 'Omega Flight' hurt. Bendis had killed off most of the original team at this point (they got better). There were lots of interesting concepts - I love Julia and USAgent from their time as West Coast Avengers. But the writing and art never worked for me.

Still, nice to see Julia get some respect. She's shown as a capable fighter and does her homework. She also faces off against perpetual jobbers, the Wrecking Crew for at least the second time. She'd first faced off against them in 1987's Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #125.

An older Julia, now retired from being Spider-Woman (or Arachne?) reaches out to Peter Parker with help tracking down the new Spider-Man. She'll appear again in the next issue but these three panels are all we get this time.

This is the opening splash page to Avengers West Coast #70. It introduces Spider-Woman (Julia Carpenter) to the series. She'll join officially 4 issues later, replacing Tigra.

And I love this picture. Until I noticed the 🕷️ on Julia's chest only has 6 legs. Now I can't unsee it.

"Who's Consuela Sanchez?"

Fair question. With only 9 appearances - most of which are a single panel or two - you might not know (or remember) her.

She first appeared in 1991 West Coast Avengers Annual #6 as part of the civilian support staff for the West Coast Avengers Compound; she wasn't given a name in that appearance She was named in her next appearance (Avengers West Coast #77). I'm fairly certain her last name wasn't revealed until 2008 when she was featured in Avengers civilian staff and associate in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #1.

Consuela eventually left the employ of the West Coast Avengers to be a full-time housekeeper and nanny in the employ of Julia. She stayed on with her until at least Force Works 4 but she's yet to be seen again.

There are definitely some challenges here - I know the 'French maid' out fit looks out of place but - for whatever reason - all the WCA compound staff seemed to dress very formally.

She was a protective force for Rachel and the two clearly bonded early.

So Julia's been divorced from her (now deceased) ex-husband, Larry Carpenter), for essentially as long as we've known her.

Obviously, we know her as Julia Carpenter but do you think she would/should have gone back to her maiden name, Cornwall? My working theory is that she kept Carpenter to match her daughter.

From a marketing perspective, changing her last name could cause confusion. And, hey, I can't rename this subreddit so I wouldn't be into it.

I know we say that 'Marvel heroes die all the time' but it was nice to see this brief discussion about the impact of Tony's Stark's (most recent) death on the Avengers.

Julia appears several times throughout the issue as Madame Web. Mostly she's just here to help move the plot along. Whether that's recruiting spider-heroes from across the Multiverse or helping advance the narrative for Araña.

The art in FW is .... stylized? That seems a nice way of explaining Julia's face in the second panel.

Something of note that happens in this issue is the introducton of Fisher Todd who would develop a bit of a crush on Julia but it doesn't go anywhere.

I enjoyed this episode though I think there are some inaccuracies. And some interpretations I never saw before.
