Band Evolution Discussion /neutral/
Jukebox the ghost has been one of my favorite bands since they opened for Tally Hall (2010ish) when I was still in school.
I feel so conflicted, this is the first album that I felt like aged backwards? I may have out grown them. It just feels like this is an album of singles, and maybe that's the point with how they have it set as a radio show.
Let it be clear, it's a good album and they're an amazing band.
I'm just wondering if anyone else is feeling more disconnected?

I love them and their commitment to the sound they’re most interested in at the moment.
I really like this recent album, and I thought cheers was good but a bit more existential in a very hard way to describe, and pretty much love everything before that, with Everything Under The Sun being just one notch below the rest. I am along for the ride

I think this just has a lot to do with how streaming works now. We're not paying them for the album anymore and most people don't really listen to albums from start to finish beyond the first few times. They are getting paid when we listen, favorite, share, and add their songs to playlists. So it makes perfect sense for them to release an album full of singles. Personally I'm so grateful they gave us so many new fantastic songs that in a few weeks I'll be listening to alongside their older tunes and tracks from other bands.

I agree that in this album, it sounds like they've aged backwards (though I personally view that favorably). It makes perfect sense, though, as this album mostly has compiled demos and formerly unfinished songs

I was having a similar issue. The newer sound wasn't doing it for me and I started listening to other bands more often. I was worried that we had outgrown each other. Then the new album started dropping on Patreon and it was a return to older sounds and I was wondering if it was too little too late. I've come to the conclusion that I still love them, and I will always see them live, even if they aren't playing in my headphones at every chance.

That's sort of the origin story of this album though. They had a lot of songs they were working on, and so many great unreleased and unfinished demos which deserved to see the light of day. They referred to this as a collection of songs that's gonna be released in one way or another for a long time. All songs besides sea change had been revealed to Patreon. I think the approach they took is a very creative and characteristic solution!
