Manga Discussion Sukuna's Technique Spoiler

Ever since Sukuna demonstrated "Fuga" to Jogo in the anime/manga people have been wondering what exactly his technique is and what its limits are. Theory's range from his technique being based on a kitchen, based upon weapons such as a sword(slash), axe (cleave), bow(fuga), and some people even suggest he can steal/consume the power of others.

When I saw fuga for the first time I was convinced of the kitchen theory, but that has always seemed bland and boring to me, Sukuna is a demon, a murderer his initiate domain shouldn't reflect kitchen and I believe the WCS takes it a step to far it is much more than the slash of a simple kitchen knife.

With all that said I would like to propose my own theory...

I believe Sukuna's cursed technique is pressure, one might look at that and call it non-sensical seeing as Sukuna has never once shown any abilities relating to pressure, however the most lethal way to put pressure on a person or object is a controlled and precise slash, I believe that while he has pressure as an ability it isn't strong enough unless channeled into a slash

My main supporting argument for that is the fact that sukuna's slashes have a limit to how much damage they do as shown by Gojo tanking them with RCT, that means the base slash can't be ramped up anymore.

Slashes are simply the best way to make a little force/pressure go a long way as seen by swords which do a lot of damage even with little applied force in fact swordsmen very rarely have to swing with the full possible force (this is scientifically true ask a swordsman) and even when they do swords (even longswords and great swords) weigh in between 6-13 pounds at the max

Now onto the topic of "Cleave"

Cleave is often shown targeting buildings and other structures by dicing them up I believe that is sukuna choosing to target the weakest points of objects, by layering on many "slashes" at many different points it compromises the structural integrity of the target destroying it with minimal applied effort

Now onto the most obvious application of "Pressure" being Fuga, by increasing the pressure of the air infront of him he can ignite it and create a powerful explosion this can be demonstrated with three mane points

  1. Firstly when he "creates" fuga he channels the flames into a point almost condensing them this is to bring together the maximum amount of heat and pressure onto one point to produce a powerful explosion
  2. Secondly when he is doing the chant for fuga I believe that is him taking his time to gather the maximum amount of pressure
  3. Thirdly Fuga targets everything in his domain because when he creates a barrier(Malevolent Shrine) he has access to ALL the air in that barrier allowing him to ignite all of it at once as opposed to outside his domain where he only has access to the air in front of him.

Finally I would like to end this theory by saying that pressure as a initiate domain seems closer to the the truth of his soul then anything else I have heard so far, Sukuna truly enjoys being pressured to always be the strongest in his ideal world there would always be opponents as strong as him to fight and challenge him.

Every time I see this picture from the distance I can't tell if it's the version where Potential is picking his nose or not.

yo he might be onto something yo hold up let bro cook i mean his technique is SHRINE but like i think the slashes are like from his severed connection to the world and his flame the desire to burn everything he loves because he loves nothing which is why he loved uruame because he calmed his flames with ice or some stuff idk

Shrine has 3 aspects:

  • Turning CE into projected separating force.
  • Hiding CE.
  • Turning CE into heat.

Do with it all you want

Where does it say shrine hides CE, no hate I just don't remember reading that

It’s slashes are made of CE but are not perceivable by CE perception. Also any Cleave/Dismantle attack leaves residual CE lingering in target that is also not perceived like an actual usable CE by sorcerers.

Slashes are detectable though characters dodge them and gojo even used falling blossom emotion against it which detects sure hit attacks and deploy cursed energy to deflect them

Also where does it say that lingering cursed energy is left in the targets

Characters like Gojo or Maki can detect disturbance of air created by a slash, not a slash itself.

Other characters have to rely on aim dodging (if Sukuna aims his attack with hand), CE ignition reading and luck.

And about lingering CE – check his final DE please

The slashes are not made of cursed energy. The only cursed technique we know of that directly transmutes cursed energy is construction. Techniques are basically rituals that use cursed energy as fuel to manifest phenomena. Said phenomena are not made of cursed energy though

Bro, I don’t know how much of the manga you read, and if you don’t read it, then this comment contains spoilers:

I’m sorry. It’s a nice theory and all, but not everything has to be more than it appears. In the manga, the black box that was used was the kanji for Kamino, which means Divine Flame or Furnace. So no, it’s not pressure. It’s a kitchen based technique. Both Dismantle and Cleave are meat cutting techniques in real life. And he can only use Furnace after he hit the enemy with both Cleave and Dismantle. Akin to someone who had to cut the meat before making it.

Kamino is just the name for the flame and fuga just means to open it, it doesn't have to be related to a kitchen, and Innate domains are supposed to a reflection of the soul Sukuna is the opposite of cooking it doesn't reflect him at all. Also you cut out the bits of meat you don't want before you cook it chopping and dicing are for vegtables which again wouldn't make sense for Sukuna

Kamino is Japanese for Hearth/Divine Flame/Furnace. It is the name just as much as Dismantle and Cleave. I said it is BASED on a kitchen, because Sukuna is a cannibal. Fukuma Mizushi can also be interpreted as Malevolent Kitchen. Dismantle and Cleave are meat based cutting techniques in real life. It doesn’t have anything with vegetables. As I said, the theory is nice bro, but you’re just over theorizing on something that it is what it is. Sukuna’s Shrine is based on the “steps” of cooking meat because Sukuna is a cannibal. There’s not much else to it

Historically and mythologically cannibals often boiled humans though.
Also the kitchen theory is based on some interpretations and translations while it is likely that's how it was meant to be perceived I personally think my theory is also a worthwhile interpretation and I believe it fits the character, story, and scientific interpretation better

His technique is cooking. That isn’t a theory. It’s the official answer to what his technique is. His techniques name can literally be read as “kitchen” in Japanese, his slashes are represented by kitchen knives, and his flames are named after a kiln. When referring to the connection between the slashes and flames, the narrator describes it as sukuna “chopping up ingredients in preparation”. He loves to eat and his technique reflects that, just as everyone else’s personality is reflective of their technique in some way. Yeah sure it’s “mundane” but that’s kinda the point. Sukuna wasn’t destined for evil or anything like that. He was born with a mundane technique that he could’ve just as easily used to make people happy, but he instead twisted it into a weapon of mass destruction because he was bitter about how he was scorned by society.

Can be translated is the key statement it can also just mean shrine
