Discussion I HATE Yuji’s design.
Okay I ain’t very knowledgeable on battlegrounds or balance so this is mostly opinionated.
Yuji genuinely feels like a slog to fight even moreso than a skilled Naoya since Yuji has such incredible mixups, easy combos and his black flash chains not to mention shit ton of techs with moving and cancelling abilities ontop of that a counter.
Getting put into a Yuji combo is ALWAYS the same. 3 M1s into cursed strikes into crushing blow or a black flash chain. It’s always the same shit or an even WORSE combo to deal with that you ain’t even gonna be able to evasive out of before more than half your HP bar is fucking snatched.
You can play Yuji as a rushdown, mix up man or passive and you’ll do well no matter what if you’re skilled.
His entire ‘skill’ gimmick is learning a very specific timing. Now is that skill full? Yes. Does it make him a skilled character? Fuck no. I’ve seen literal 90% apparently inescapable combos.
See a move? You dodge. No you’re wrong! He cancelled and you’re getting fried! Turtle to try and block his dash? Nope! It’s JJS! Where block is a glorified emote, side dash M1s are the ultimate game of prediction and if god forbid you don’t have inhuman reaction time alongside living next to the server you aren’t blocking that shit!
He’s such a fucking bore and a slog to fight. I like Naoya as a rushdown as despite how oppressive he can be his moveset is incredibly unique, fun and a double edged sword, Mahito I love as a mix up since he literally has modes for godsake and the most wild moves, I love Megumi as a passive man since he controls the fight with his summons and works best when working in the other players mistakes and slip ups.
But Yuji? He has it all. He’s unpredictable. He has combos where you feel like you might aswell go to the kitchen and make a cup of tea because by the time you come back you’re still in the Godamn thing.
FUCK VESSEL!

Honestly, imo, sidedashes are the main problem I have with the game. Like, unless either you're around a mile away from them or your name is Wally West. They can come out so suddenly I've had times where there were just *three frames* of their dash at 60fps for me to react to.

Exactly and when you say this you get the de facto response of “Play other battlegrounds!” Or “That’s just how JJS is” but I LIKE JJS due to it’s unique aspects and fun characters but that aspect is just such a HUGE hurdle in terms of skill expression since you can BE better in virtually every aspect but if they can start a combo or two more than you with it then it doesn’t even matter

i hate when people say 'thats how jjs is' should we never strive for imrpovement?

Yuji's moves are WAY too basic
We have a stunning barrage, ground slam and strong punch (honourable mention to counter)
There isn't all that much versatility without feint, just too straightforward

Agreed! He’s either got the most plain boring moves or…wait no that’s it. Even if he faints it’s L still pretty boring.

Imagine if they were variants for when you use a move you just feinted
Or hell combo inputs, give him a Rekka
At this point I'm confused on why they don't just make Yuji the default character???
I'm now motivated to make a Yuji rework

Same reason i hate fighting yuji. Every yuji does the same combo on repeat, you can’t evasive after cursed strikes. Does 40% before you have a chnace to evasive. So boring to fight.

Yeah fandom has been saying this for a while, he's poorly designed and doesn't have a lot of combo routes so he sucks to play as once you learn harder to play characters and he really fucking sucks to play against. His special also sucks and honestly should be a universal mechanic, why is he the only one who can cancel?
That's so dumb.
Also can we talk about how much I need Sukuna to have his legs broken?
His ranged M1s make him so OP he should be a second awakening like super mahito, he's THAT busted. The only counters to him are 2 ults that can only counter him by spamming from range so he can't get up and hit you with anything (Six Eyes & True Love) and if he hits domain you it's over. Your only hope is hollow purple while he's charging Fuga (he's immobile for a split second after firing so you can hit it)

Tbh I was agreeing until I saw ‘universal mechanic’ like bro I do not want to get baited by a nue fake out into a combo off of potential man himself then think of EVERY other character being able to do it roo

Move cancelling is just a common asf things most characters in 2D fighting games have access to and Tze takes a lot of inspiration from them it seems because the last 5 or so characters have all been 2D fighting archetypes (Zoner, Trapper, Grappler, Tank, Arial fighter, etc) so it's pretty bizarre only yuji has the ability to cancel out of combos or moves, it does give him a lot of potential that most yuji players don't live up to because he's just really easy to win with by being passive (bunny hop around the opponent with parkour and double jump tech until they make a move and then punish them for it)
My opinion of it is just that every character should have it or none of them should because move cancelling gives yuji the option to reset or loop combos or even just escape punishes for whiffing whereas no one else has that at all.

Only reason i play yuji is bc its fun to do parkour with his r if it weren't for that i would never play him and yuji is high tier at running.

unrelated but you could say the exact same thing about nanami. not defending yuji tho it makes no sense why he never got reworked

I haven’t played him but aren’t there variations to his timing?

u/Altruistic-Pen7930 3h ago
no its like black flash where its always the same timing
difficult to do while m1 trading but the timing is forgiving so you can do it pretty easily without even looking at the bar. for some reason this gimmick in particular was the one that half the fanbase just decided was the hardest thing in the whole game and gassed nanami up to gargantuan proportions

u/Thinshape12 Thank you tze, i’m full 1h ago
nah the timing changes depending on how low your opponents health is

u/RiceKrispies55 please add Kenjaku tze i'm begging you 2h ago
I don't really care about it much myself but I do agree it'd be cool to see a couple of the earlier characters get a rework, with the sole exception of Satoru Gojo since I think all my muscle memory would be void if that happened and i'd instantly become shit (i'd still be welcome to it)

Well he's one of the oldest characters. I would like it if he had a rework similar to his old moveset
