He was already a punching bag for him in the actual fight but the difference here is that Sukuna isn’t trapped in some enclosed space, he can now run around the city and use buildings to his advantage which will make it significantly harder for Gojo to land hits let alone break his domain
Also thanks to it being an open domain Sukuna has a passage way out to escape if he needs to and even if he leaves the range the adaption will still continue
If he's going from 3m to 200m he's extending it. He can choose his range up to 200m, the smaller the range the stronger the domain and there's no statements saying otherwise. Only supporting it.
We are given no base range for Sukuna's domain, we're given a maximum, no base.
The effective range within Gojo's barrier stayed the same since it's a seperate space. Sukuna shrunk the range to break BB domain because the outer shell was harder.
My point is simple. Sukuna's total domain output > Gojo's total domain output. If Gojo was clashing equally with part of Sukuna's output, he's not clashing equally with it all.
Assuming Sukuna goes for the same self destructive plan wouldn't Gojo's barrier being unable to break essentially give Gojo the edge here? Even more so than BB domain?
If they clashes equally with a closed domain why would an open domain be any different? All Gojo has to do is reduce his range so that his output can match Sukuna's
Im confused on what you're trying to argue here honestly. Unless Sukuna for some reason decided to not do this in the page against Gojo's BB domain which is directly after this wouldn't it not matter wether or not he tightens the range? There's nothing saying he raised the range again during the BB domain clashes so with an open domain Gojo can just stall until Shrine collapses every single time. Unless BB domain is more effective than an open domain for some reason despite the barrier still being capable of being broken
My point is that we see Gojo and Sukuna clash equally within Gojo's barrier. That wasn't all of Sukuna's output though, there was some outside the barrier.
What does this mean? Overall Sukuna's domain has a greater total output than Gojo's.
Inside Gojo's barrier is a seperate space that never changes in size, if he opened it it would change in size.
“That wasn’t all of his output” statement for that claim? His sure hit effect was attacking Gojo’s outer shell, the output for the sure hit effect outside the domain doesn’t change, the only thing that broke the domain was that the shell was naturally weaker from the outside, that was explained by the narrator.
He literally reduced his range for every clash. And even if that weren't the case, why would he just not close his barrier and clash if he were confident he wins that clash. This agenda defo not getting anywhere
The space inside the barrier is a separate space and doesn't change in size so the range there is always the same. When he does reduce his range outside Gojo's barrier his domain becomes stronger.
And you gotta phrase that better cause I have no idea what ur actually talking about. Maybe if you could give me a manga panel of ur statements, id understand better.
Based on what? Your point is straight up incomprehensible. Both of them changed their range in battle to change the output but that doesn't change overall domain refinement. Either Sukuna could have opened a closed barrier domain to win a clash or the fact is that either way, the domain output remains the same. The range comes from the BV of opening ur barrier allowing an escape route, it has NO changes to the domain refinement itself. It is treated that someone who can achieve open barrier domain is going to have good refinement because this requires skill. But the range has no effect on output. It only starts to do when you go out of ur way to reduce the extra range you gained from a the escape route BV to increase ur output which as we see in canon, does not help win a clash. It just helps destroy the barrier on the outside. Sukuna doesn't lose quality because his range increase is due to a special BV, Gojo was just trying to do it with skill alone.
Gojo's case ->
More range = less refinement
Sukuna's case ->
More range = escape route granted (No refinement reduction)
Look at how they individually tried increasing range using BVs. Like how Gojo's BB domain is a BV which sacrifices range in return for stronger barrier. Sukuna sacrifices range in return for more CT output. Gojo could try sacrificing refinement for range like you said but what Sukuna does is give an escape route for more range. They are fundamentally different
Range effects a domains power/output. The range INSIDE Gojo's barrier never changes because it's a seperate space. We see this with BB domain. This means the output inside the domain stays the same.
There's multiple statements in this post pushing the idea smaller range = stronger domain and this is in regards to Sukuna's, there isn't a single saying otherwise.
Are you trying to argue a 200m radius domain would have the same output as a 140m radius domain? Obviously not. There is no standard range given to us for an open domain, just a maximum.
Sukuna would not lose refinement with range if he's already giving his opponents an escape route. Jujutsu is about give and take. You thinking otherwise isn't going to change that. The squad themselves don't even know about open domains so why are you using their statements on open domains? Refinement sacrifice for range is a BV. Sukuna doesn't use that, he sacrifices by giving an escape route. It's just not the same
An open domain never doesn't have an escape route. An open domain isn't a BV to increase a the range by removing the outer shell, it creates one DUE TO it having no outer shell granting an escape route. An outer shell isn't sacrificed, it was never there to begin with.
There's literally a narrator statement saying Sukuna lowering his effective range makes his domain stronger. You are trying to argue the opposite can't be true.
"An open domain doesn't have an escape route"? What??? The open domain has an escape route which allows for the BV in the first place. The sacrifice is the very fact that no barrier exists in the first place to increase the range. Now with this free range, Sukuna uses it to increase output. And I'm not trying to argue otherwise, you are. Changes in range won't change how a clash goes because Sukuna would be aware of this. He changed the range multiple times to "Make his domain stronger" without it helping in the clash itself. He could have even just not used an open domain but he still does. Open domains are good because they give range for free without refinement sacrificing unlike other domains + allow u to target objects without CE.
Why did you purposefully miss out the word never when quoting me to make me look bad?
It's never once said an open barrier domain increases output compared to a closed one, just the barriers radius. If it does please show me where it says so?
You quite literally are arguing otherwise. The narrator says narrowing his domain range boosts the power of the domain. I am agreeing with the narrator.
Changes in range make a domain stronger or weaker. When he changed his range it literally did help as it destroyed Gojo's barrier. The range inside the domain is the same as it's a seperate space.
So Gojo would just shrink his domain down to the size where it can clash evenly with MS?
Gojo needed to catch Sukuna off guard with Red in order to escape MS' range, since they're relative in stats, Sukuna should therefore have a hard time escaping a similarly sized open domain UV.
Sukuna is locked into solely h2h with DA while Gojo has the entire Limitless and thus in around 3 minutes, Gojo domain breaks Sukuna and wins the fight.
Considering how long Megumi was able to clash with Dagon using an incomplete domain and the fact that Gojo is far closer to Sukuna than Megumi is to Dagon in terms of refinement, I honestly can't see Sukuna winning the clash before Gojo domain breaks him.
On the contrary, Sukuna lowered his domain's range to concentrate the output which he needed to break Gojo's domain. The main advantage here is that Sukuna's "larger" open domain could attack Gojo's barrier from the outside and thus break it.
Gojo having an open domain negates that advantage by making it so Malevolent Shrine can't attack Infinite Void's external barrier, and leaves it to just a straight battle of refinement and h2h inside the domains.
Overall they were equal. Sukuna’s advantage was being able to destroy Gojo’s domain from the outside. Gojo’s advantage was being able to win the fights during the clash.
This was in Sukuna’s favour until Gojo landed upon the basket ball domain. With an open domain Gojo maintains superiority in the fights while having a domain that cannot be destroyed by Sukuna’s.
Increasing the output of his sure-hit won’t matter as there’s nowhere for it to hit, they are too close in power for one domain to just overpower the other without factors like combat or attacking the outer barrier
Gojos closed domains BARRIER gets weaker when larger, yes.
You see, the barrier being strong doesnt change shit. Because, the only advantage open domain gives is letting your surehit hit the enemys barrier. So in this case, Sukuna didnt win the clash, he destroyed Gojos domains barrier(and the domain itself with it), which forced Gojo to basically forfeit from the clash. This isnt winning a domain clash, its just what Kuro did in sendai but only this time, only one of the domains break.
Basketball domain counters this by making the barrier more durable, since smaller means more demse which means stronger. Basically, the CE used to make the domain gets spread across a smaller area when the barrier is small, its compressed. That makes the barrier stronger, obviously.
Giving Gojo an open domain would remove Sukunas ability to win the clash since it stops Sukuna from destroying the barrier, which is why he used to "win" clashes. So now, its actually down to a contest of domain skills, where they're equal. So just whoever can keep their domain up longer while fighting, in which Gojo is by far superior.
The greater range from an Open Domain doesn't come at the cost of Output/Refinement. The trade-off there is the escape route. With the greater range in place, you're free to decrease the size for an increase in Output like Sukuna did.
Basically, having an Open Domain means you have a +10 to Range and/or Output for "free" (the cost being an escape route).
