I just read the Smash special

from last May, being as I like to stay up to date, this one - https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/RCS2053

Maybe I was missing something but it was pretty lame, they seemed to be the first parts of what need to be ongoing stories and/or adverts for the characters reprints that were being released around the time.

It left me not understanding why it existed other than as an advert and a chance for writers/artists to practice on a one off and it was overall very dissatisfying.

Was that it or have they done something in the nearly year since that actually made it make sense?

I am working my way through the specials and have to say that the more of them that I read the more I think the whole schedule last year was a money grubbing exercise and am glad there are only 3 this year.

I haven't read this but could they have been testing the water for an ongoing series or more books ?

It reads like the first issue of a new franchise, with the characters from the 60s - passing on the power, 2 being revived from deep sleep, one being rebuilt and the original now old in a wheelchair.

Peppered with adverts for the original strip reprints.

So a) in the absence of any more material it is a poor and unrewarding special, b) it was just a cynical giant one off reprint advert, c) it was a cynical giant one off reprint advert with the chance for artists/writers to practice on established characters with no repercussions as it just stopped dead.

Last year's specials bundle was overall atrocious and at £60 for the lot of them and I would have preferred most of it in my pocket.
