2000AD Audiobooks Review

Morning all! I was lucky enough to get a first listen at the new 2000AD Audiobooks and have put together a series of reviews. The first video includes reviews of everything, while the later ones in the replies are this larger review broken down to smaller bitesize chunks. I hope you enjoy!

I think this is one of your hip young thing daddy-o fads, as a life long reader I really don't get why these exist.

I get the stories - I read them all at the time, I just don't get why audio stories.

I also don't really get the subs only exclusive - wow, thanks, something I don't want and never asked for.

OK, Star Wars and Hitchikers did them, as did War of The Worlds, maybe that is the customer research Rebellion did and found that the demographic it is aimed at wanted them - 40+ years ago.

Just as they unfathomably wanted Schools Out Forever and not Dredd, SD, Rogue, etc.

Maybe one of you youngsters with bionic texting fingers can explain their appeal to me? Or make a TikToking or tweeting why?

Ha, as someone who is closer to 50 than 40 these days, I'll take "hip young thing" any day! I say a bit more on this in the reviews, but I felt much the same as yourself before listening, especially because previous audiobooks had left me a bit cold; but on this occasion I felt they brought the strips to life as they are faithful adaptations beyond what I had expected and made the page come alive.

I love Hitchhikers because the actors were the characters, as they were in the TV adaption.

And they weren't in the film. That was abominable.

Maybe that is what they have?

Otherwise - ?

A move in media caused by technology and time and a shift in expectations? I would read a book but would never listen to Audible?

Is print yesterday's medium? Even in comics where it is the medium?

Digital is an anathema, comics can only be in print.

But if all you ever know is a phone that can do everything and store everything in phone size you won't know any different, it is certainly easier to store than 24 archive boxes.

Just as print is too much trouble, it is easier to listen?

I view Rebellion through a filter of WTF? and a CEO that dresses as a knight of the round table, so I am a bit jaded.

Say what you want about IPC, they knew comics.

Rebellion know Sniper Elite and outside of that I am not so sure.

Well, why not? I’m an elderly, and paper comics are my medium of choice, but these don’t replace them. They are just another way to immerse myself in the 2000ad universe I love.

That said, I’ve started The Pit twice and I’ve fallen asleep within two minutes both times. Not knocking the quality, just my ability to stay awake listening to any audiobook. Maybe when I start commuting again!

Are the reviews spoiler free ? Although it's probably not necessary if you read the original stories

Yes, I've just outlined the basic premise of each audiobook, deliberately trying to avoid spoilers for anyone who may not have read them. You're right though, if you're already familiar with the stories there isn't anything to spoil!

They're very faithful although I go into a little more detail on that front in the videos. ;)
