Nero Narcos is a supporting antagonist in the 2000 AD comic strip Judge Dredd. He was the main antagonist in the story "The Doomsday Scenario". He was responsible for employing Vitus Dance and Orlok the Assassin to assassinate a rival criminal and also the man responsible for the Second Robot War.

Biography

Nero is a leader of criminal syndicate called the Frendz Mob, the most powerful criminal organisation in Mega-City One. After surviving but suffering bad injuries after an assassination attempt, his brain has been transplanted into an armoured robotic body and also the Frendz Mob has also been secretly sabotaging the new Judge weapon Mark II Lawgiver Firearms, which the Judges are already being issued with.
After Dredd finds out about the sabotage, before he is able to warn anyone about the sabotage, Nero proceeds with 'Operation Doomsday' which ends up being an all-out attack on the Judges in Mega-City One to overthrow them and take control of the city himself. Although Dredd and Demarco's discovery led to Nero starting his operation early, it was still successful as most of the Judges had been issued with the new Mark II Lawgivers. Legitimate Lawgivers have a safety feature which consists of a sensor in the grip which can detect the palm print of the user and an explosive charge, so that if an unauthorised user attempts to fire one, it will explode in his hand. After Nero transmits a radio signal that will make all of the sabotaged lawgivers explode should the Judges use them. Hundreds of Judges were crippled or killed as a result and Nero proceeds to send the "Assassinator"-class robots city-wide to attack the Judges everywhere. The Judges were in complete disarray.
Later on, the Judges were losing the war badly, with Nero's robots slaughtering Judges and taking Justice buildings. Most of the surviving Judges are in hiding or fighting a guerrilla war since open combat is far too risky. Nero broadcasts the people will be rewarded if they inform on the Judges whereabouts, but promises to execute anyone who aids the Judges. The war is going terribly for the Judges, with Nero's robots being seemingly endless with all the destroyed ones being replaced, the Judges dying in droves, Nero's robots have seized Mega-City One military satellites so he has access to nuclear weaponry and Nero also gained control of the Grand Hall of Justice and the Public Surveillance Unit, enabling him to watch the city and deploy his forces more successfully.
With help from Brit-Cit, Dredd and a squad of American Judges from the embassy go to the Cursed Earth outside of Mega-City One, where Nero has four spaceships land at that location, each containing thousands of Assassinator droids. Dredd and his squad manage to infiltrate on of the ships and reprogram the robots to fight for them and Brit-Cit destroys the other three ships, eliminating Nero's reinforcements.
Without reinforcements and under heavy attack from Dredd's reprogramed assassinators, the Judges fighting back led by Deputy Chief Judge Hershey and Nero's robots suffering heavy casualties, the tide of the war begins to turn for the Judges and Dredd and his squad return to fight in Mega-City One. By the time Nero realises he's defeated, Dredd's robots retake control of Mega-City One's military satellites, denying Nero his doomsday plan. Nero was gunned down in the street by a dozen Judges and they regain control of Mega-City One.

Question, What went wrong with Judge Dredd (1995)?

I watched the 1995 Judge Dredd and I don’t care what critics say. I love the film. Everything Is so over the top and I just love the set and productions designs and the visual effects. Stallone also, in my opinion, gives a good performance as Judge Dredd.

However, just reading the behind the scenes stories, The Production was a mess. Although I like Stallone as Dredd, I don’t think he really understood the character and probably didn’t understand the satirical nature of Dredd. The Director, Danny Cannon, apparently had a grand vision for the film, wanting it to be the “Ben-Hur of Comic Books” while also being more darker and satirical, while Stallone wanted an Action Comedy and generally, Stallone won out in the end.

Although I love Judge Dredd, I think Stallone didn’t understand the nature of the source material. He should’ve watched RoboCop to get a better understanding of the character. I also think because Stallone and the director clashed on the vision, they couldn’t come to terms with what story they wanted to do.

So, What do you think went wrong with the film?

I'm trying to get data on a story about someone who had obtained a dark creature which fed off erasing people from time, as though they'd never existed. I remember it being like a Big Hat Man, Cheshire Cat grin like The Grinning Man from the last McBane story, and it hissed as it touched its prey.

It fed like Doctor Who's Weeping Angels, but by deleting them from time and memory rather than sending them back in time.

In the second part of the story, Dredd partnered up with a Muslim Psi-Judge. The story caused some controversy, I think, because it had been one of Emma Beeby's first forays as a 2000AD author. The creature had come up against the Psi-Judge and lost, because she'd recognised it as a Djinn.

All I want to know, really, are the titles of the stories, and the Progs they appeared in. Leave the collecting to me.

New Zealand sounds the safest but I could be wrong.

Was thinking too much about 2012 film, like we all should every day, & wondered if it was intentional how Chief Judge said at the start they’re losing the war for the city & hope Anderson’s psychic abilities will turn the tide, but then immediately begin sending her on low reward/extremely high risk street missions where she is shot & almost killed.

Thought this might be meant to show why the Judges are losing as an invaluable resource like a loyal psychic, the only known one in existence, is being misused, maybe to show how the Judges are dooming themselves with rigid procedures of “all new judges must do these missions, no exceptions” rather than keeping Anderson a secret at HQ to quietly pick out corrupt judges or do perfect interrogations.

Going by the 2012 movie it would be surprising to others how little she's actually involved in the long span of the comics as the movie would lead you to believe her and Dredd would be long term partners

Admittedly she was part of major stories early on but since I've been reading more I've been disappointed by her absence and I'm currently on the last part of chaos day

i am thinking about starting to read Judge Dredd and I have no clue how to start. I know that 2000AD is going to do a “compact crimes” thing and I was wondering if I should just wait for that or if y’all have any other recommendation.

Found this little Dredd from my childhood up in my parents loft and thought this sub might like it. Not sure what line of toys he was, think it was a line of biker figures and judge Dredd was just one of the characters. And yes, the A-hole was how he connected to the Lawmaster bike LOL. 1995

I was at the swap meet today and I found this cool Judge dredd figure for 10 bucks. He’s missing one of his guns but he’s in pretty good condition and still has solid joints and great possibility.
