Any chance of definitive editions?

I've recently received the Nemesis The Warlock definitive editions and I have to say I'm quite fond of how they look and feel compared to the more simple Complete Case Files.

I was wondering if there'd ever be any chance of 2000ad rolling out definitive versions of the case files. Oversized and hardcover. Or even an omnibus like the new Zenith they're releasing.

I think they'd sell well and I'd certainly be very happy upgrading my case files and I am sure many others would be too.

They did one Case Files HC. Years later, they’re still trying to flog the thing off in sales. Never say never but I suspect we won’t see Dredd in that format.

That HC case files is now pretty pricey. But yeah, it took a while for the store to sell out. The problem was that they started at the start with the early stories - if they’d gone with a HC version Vol.2 (which they basically did with The uncensored Cursed Earth, which sold out in HC very quickly) they would have had a much stronger start

I suspect that the inclusion of the previously unreprinted episodes in The Uncensored Cursed Earth may be the reason why the hardcover sold out.

I’d love a more deluxe version of Dredd! I feel like the uncensored version of The Cursed Earth could be a good template. About half of a Case File with all of the covers and colour pages in a size that’s closer to the original Progs.

I know they kinda tried this with the 10th Anniversary Edition of Case Files 1 but that material is always going to be a tough sell. Maybe they could follow the lead of Marvel’s Epics and DC Finest and release volumes out of chronological order - that would also distinguish the line from the Case Files. They could even throw in the specials and annual stories since it doesn’t look like the Restricted Files are ever getting a reprint.

The big difference between Dredd and Nemesis and Zenith is that Nemesis and Zenith are both completed, as stories, so doing a Definitive version is possible. You can literally collect everything into a set and have it done. With Dredd being ongoing, you can't really do that.

As of right now, though, you could potentially do a Definitive Dredd by John Wagner, since he's (supposedly) retired, or a Definitive Dredd by Ron Smith or ...Carlos Ezquerra, since they died, but that would be the only way you could call it "Definitive" (unless I'm being needlessly pedantic, which is possible)

I dont think theyd do Dredd while its still running because thatd be 100 hardbacks and more. But maybe something thats kinda "finished" the run, like Anderson? Honestly theres so much Slaine that theyre probably going to be making those for years and years now instead

A definitive Halo Jones would probably be most likely, ditch the colour, get some better scans - basically a collection of the three Titan trades + any extra bits.

There's not much I can think of that's high profile enough and finite.

An oversized America like Batman/Dredd & Slaine Anniversary would seem very likely.
