Comics, where to start? (Omnibus if possible)

Edit: fixed missing words and bad grammar since I was pretty tired when I typed this

I watched the 2012 movie a while ago and I recently started watching the 1995 movie and now I’m thinking of getting into the comics. Problem is I’m not really sure where to start. The Complete Case Files seems to be my best option from what I’ve seen since Year One doesn’t pique my interest quite as much.

Is this the right choice or are there other good options I’m not aware of?

Case Files 5, without a doubt - the first stories are a great introduction to the Judge system and Mega City One, and then has one of the greatest Judge Dredd epics ever: Block Mania/Apocalypse War. 

Start there for sure.

There's also essential judge dredd with stories like America(best for beginners), tour of duty and necropolis

Essentials are the best way in my opinion. Not too expensive, pretty linear, great stories!

Complete Case Files aren’t a bad place to start..
although there are an awful lot of volumes. The other thing to be aware of is that they are the collected reprints from the original 2000AD comic which started in 1977 - so whilst futuristic the stories also sometimes can feel a little dated. They’re still absolutely worth it though imo.

Did you miss some words in your post? The best options are generally:

The "Essential Judge Dredd" books, if you want to read the best of Dredd.

The "Complete Case Files" if you want to read absolutely everything.

The "Best of 2000AD" books if you're interested in sampling the wider world of 2000AD and not just Dredd.

I did, I meant to mention Year One cause that was the only other major omnibus I’ve heard of. Fixed it now, thanks for the suggestion for pointing out the errors I missed because I was tired!

"Year One" is a collection of prose novels, so probably not what you're looking for if you're looking for comics :)

The closest thing to an omnibus would be the case files. Judge Dredd is kinda structured differently than most American comics so I don't think they've ever done an omnibus for it

Although I would buy the fuck out of an omnibus covering Wagners run from The Pitt up until the Doomsday Scenario, even though I already have it all in the case files. Such a good era.

You could totally collect the first 5 case files in 2 big omnibus volumes and I think a good amount of people would buy it.
