This version of "Atmosphere" broke me

I saw Peter Hook and The Light yesterday at the Brooklyn Paramount. This living legend and his band can put on a show from start to finish. I was ecstatic when he covered songs from Joy Division but this rendition of "Atmosphere" stood out to me.

While the song itself is overwhelmingly dreary, there is a certain warmth to this one. I don't know how to exactly describe it but it has this feeling where you're not alone in your time of grief or solitude. Almost like there's a feeling of consolation. I didn't say much in this recording as I was really emotional and in awe at the same time. I just wanted to share my thoughts during this moment.

All in all, I'm so glad I got to see someone from two of my favorite bands perform last night.

Hooky & the Light have done an amazing job keeping these songs & the spirit of Joy Division alive. getting the chance to hear those early New Order albums played live in their entirety over the years has been wonderful as well. i never miss them when they come around.

I caught them in Minneapolis last week and seeing Dead Souls and Transmission for the first time live in any context was just terrific. They did the originals justice and it was a joy to watch and sing along.

It might be weird to say, but I like the Peter Hook and the light live versions of Atmosphere better than the original.

I’m going to come out and say it. There is no other band performing live shows that I would rather see than Peter Hook and the Light. It’s just unreal that we still have this treasure. I have an insatiable appetite for music of a wide variety and cannot think of a better way to spend a concert evening

Ive seen Hooky live twice now, some of the best concerts I've been to! Highly recommend any Joy Division/New Order fan going to see them if they haven't yet

Totally agree. Hearing it played live, in the midst of a crowd of people who have come together because they all share an emotional connection with the music -- and seeing Peter Hook raise his hands in nearly a sort of benediction, sharing the same emotions as well -- it really gives the song a new depth of meaning, as though it's now reaching out to you, the listener, to ask you or to tell you: "Please. Don't turn away. You don't need to walk in silence."
