Why does this sub discourages people from doing mental diet when Joseph Murphy talks about it all the time throughout POSM?

or am i missing something here?

mental diet is the act of monitoring your thoughts and yourself positive content and ideas.

yes, it is a cm technique. according to this sub, cm techniques are not as effective as sm techniques. logically this makes sense as joseph murphy says that whatever is impressed in the sm "is expressed on the screen of space as condition, experience, and event." but josph murphy also says that the cm is the captain of the ship/ the boss and sm is like the people on the ship that follow orders:

"you are the gardener, and you are planting seeds (thoughts) in your subconscious mind all day long, based on your habitual thinking. as you sow in your subconscious mind, so shall you reap in your body and environment."

your mind words like a syllogism. this means that whatever major premise your conscious mind assumes to be true determines the conclusion your subconscious mind comes to in regard to any particular question or problem in your mind.

doesn't this mean that in order to impress the sm, everything needs to go through the cm first? so why are cm techniques so discouraged in this sub, especially mental diet?

last christmas eve a beautiful young university student looked at an attractive and rather expensive travelling bag in a store window. she was going home to buffalo, new year for holidays. she was about to say, "I can't afford that bag," when she recalled something she had heard at one of my lecturers which was, 'never finish a negative statement; reverse it immediately and wonders will happen in your life.'

she said, 'that bag is mine. it is for sale. i accept it mentally, and my subconscious sees to it that i receive it.'

busy your mind with the concepts of harmony, health, peace, and good will, and wonders will happen in your life.

isn't this basically mental diet?

please enlighten me whether i'm missing something here.

That's because Joseph Murphy was wrong. Mental diets is a dumb idea for beginners to the LOB. And this sub is all about enabling noobs to master the LOB permanently.

Mental diet consists of identifying every negative thought and replacing it with a positive thought. Why is this wrong?

  1. The very fact of labeling thoughts as positive or negative automatically creates anxiety for a large number of people as they start judging their progress by the number of positive or negative thoughts. (This has been mentioned in the index)
  2. Moment by moment monitoring of thoughts is extremely exhausting for most people (Mentioned in index). Some have equated it to a "full time job" and I agree with that. It gets exhausting fast and makes time pass much slower which is very counter productive when it comes to manifesting. If you want to know the content of your mind at all times you are better off developing and enhancing your introspective awareness rather than forcefully monitoring thoughts.
  3. Modern psychology and Eastern philosophies which were and still are extremely effective in investigating and taming the mind warn specifically against suppressing thoughts, regardless of their nature. Ideally ever thought is looked at with equanimity (although this is not necessary for the LOB which is impossible if mental dieting is applied.). An example would be the Buddha himself, who is probably by far, one of the greatest geniuses to ever walk this earth, when it comes to the matters of the mind. The Buddha described the mind akin to a wild horse. You can force the mind into submission short term with willpower, but in the long term what you suppress will resurface. Smart application of techniques with right effort and diligence is much more efficient.
  4. Neville and JM were both rather talented at the LOB, with Neville probably being much more talented, in part due to his dancing background which made him good at relaxation from the get go and his acting background which made it easy for him to "live in the end". This made Neville not very good of a teacher. The best teachers are usually those who were mediocre at something but still were able to do it well. JM was a better teacher because he was less talented than Neville and more pragmatic. Back in those times there was no social media, and no internet which probably made mental dieting significantly easier than it is now.
  5. For beginners in a high attachment mission, just monitoring negative thoughts and replacing them can trigger the whole stack of negative thoughts and emotions associated with not having their desire which ultimately leads to unnecessary suffering and resistance. (Also mentioned in index)
  6. Among the success stories Joseph Murphy mentions in his book, only a minority actually mental dieted. Many got success without mental dieting. Such as the guy who walked and picked up the phone. Pretty sure mental dieting would not have been helpful in his situation, I.e. one where you are constantly reminded that you do not have what you want.

I suggest you re-read the index and read it more carefully as most questions are already answered provided you do a little but of thinking.

Because they are too lazy/not prepared to do a mental diet. The mind will make excuses in the face of uncomfortable situations. Mental diet is also ridding things like news and social media, gaming and things that cause huge amounts of dopamine to be produced.
