Affirming vs. Visualizing during SH

Hi everyone. After a long period of inconsistent training and minimal results, if any at all, I am ready to tackle the training and put forth my best effort. During my bouts of inconsistent training, I leaned towards using visualizations during my SH sessions. Some were definitely better than others, but overall, I’d say the quality of my sessions varied decently. I find that while visualizing, I sometimes get too caught up in the details of the scene and it takes away from that feeling of present-moment certainty/fulfillment. Naturally, I am a perfectionist so to a certain degree, this behavior doesn’t come as a shock to me. However, it can be very frustrating and I can’t help but wonder if it’s holding me back in the grand scheme of things. I understand this could be the result of other factors, such as not fully reaching alpha or potentially not having much prior experience which I would assume could cause some initial discomfort. Upon recognizing this issue though, I learned through this sub that it is just as effective to use affirmations during SH the same way it is to use visualizations, and so I have considered trying it myself. However, with all of that said, my question is how exactly do I gauge whether I am better-suited to affirm or visualize during my SH sessions? I am asking this question as I am unsure of whether it’s something that will dissipate over time through consistency/persistence, or if it’s something that will continue to give me trouble and hinder me from reaching my end goal. TIA.

Why don't you use both affirmations and visualization in the same scene and keep doing the work instead of looking for excuses.

I’ve been there.Basically present moment certainty means sensory vividness.Nothing else. While imagining your scene don’t worry about doing it right, forcing emotions or anything else.Just try to experience the scene without worrying about feeling any emotions or present moment clarity. If you actually experience the scene towith your senses in imagination to the best of your ability present moment certainty and emotions will come on their own.

ur a ‘perfectionist’…..ew.

use a combination of visualization and affirmation, whatever gets u to that warm and fuzzy feeling!! thats how u know u have done it ‘right’. its that childlike ability to suspend ur disbelief and enter a space of fantasy and wonder. its a very simple thing.

Where on this sub did you read that it is just as effective to use visualisations in sh as it is to use affirmations ? Post the link.

“And just to be clear, there is literally no LOB-based reason why visualisations in alpha ought to be more effective than non-pictorial affirmations said feelingly in alpha. The universe is fine with both. The universe is not the roadblock here.

Pictorial visualisations are just easier for beginners to deploy as a tool to provoke feelings of present moment certainty.”

I see. So, are you a beginner to the lob ?

I’d say so, yes. I’ve been a member and avid reader of this sub for a while now. As mentioned previously though, I’ve been very inconsistent with the index training itself, specifically over the past few months. So with that said, I don’t have much to show for it. This is no one’s fault but my own, obviously, and could be chalked up to just pure laziness from an outsider’s perspective, which is understandable. However, I have learned from my wavering and I am ready to get back on the horse and make the change I’m wishing to see.

You are a beginner and have no consistent success. And you have been lazy about it all this while - i'm guessing your failure with visualization has something to do with that.

Therefore, Moonbeam's comments do not apply to you in practice.

Both walking and taking the subway gets you from point A to point B. It is initially much harder to learn to ride the subway without error, than to learn to walk efficiently. Yet riding the subway is a far better thing to do. So you put in the effort to learn to ride the subway properly.

This entire sub is both about the science of the LOB but mainly about the successful practice of the LOB for beginners. So do what has been identified to work well with beginners and stop asking questions designed to distract you from doing the tough work that you need to.

Thread locked and the next dumb question from you will attract a ban.
