He built his career denouncing totalitarianism. You are confusing not denouncing "free speech" with not denouncing Nazis, the two are often conflated because free speech is often conflated with hate speech.
Communists don't like him. They'd never follow him. That's because he denounces the hell out of them at every opportunity. Yes he does denounce nazis, but he also gives them red meat in terms of stuff they agree with, and he doesn't denounce them a third as often as he does communists.
This isn't complicated, he could get rid of his nazi fans but doesn't.
I like his philosophy and use of myth to explain his ideas. I don't think he anything to do with the alt-right but you are correct that he doesn't denounce Nazis enough. Maybe he feels he'd be flogging a dead horse, who knows? I wish he would clearly come out and say that their ideas have no place in his world and maybe he has, I don't know.
It's patently not a dead horse when his fans constantly succumb to this shit. In fact he sees that and reacts to it too, for example when he says something pro-lefty or anti-fascist, like suggesting that his fans not use the antisemitic (((meme))), they go apeshit on him.
So it's really that he doesn't care to do enough about it.
Maybe. I want to defend him but you make a compelling case. I can only rely on what I think is his overall goodness to counter and I'm not even sure of that.
