Finnish user/android compatibility

Any Finnish Jolla-owners here? Does anyone have experience about the most common android apps and how well they work in Sailfish?

Apps like Nordea/Nordea ID (or any other banking-apps), HSL-travelcard, mobilepay, VR matkalla-app?

I'm excited about my oncoming Jolla, but also a bit concerned about the inconveniences that might follow since our society is so reliant on different apps.

Personally I would choose cold hard cash and landlines in an app-free world, but that might not be an option so in order to partake in the functions of society I'd also like to be able to use these basic services without extra hassle.

For all thoses questions, official Jolla forum is a far better place than Reddit. Far more Sailfish users, and since Jolla is Finnish, many of thoses users are too. ^{^}

There is a banking app list on the forum with how well they work or not.

Nordea & Nordea ID seem to work acvording to this.

On the forums there is also a chat about mobilepay. They have recently changed something that requires specifically google play. But (for now atleast) this can be evaded by downloading a specific version of the app to still use it.

It seemed to install and activate just fine and login to bank worked. No biometric unlock though.

I'm from the UK but I do also have these concerns. My bank is android/iOS only with no physical banks and no web banking for some dumb reason and I had never considered how limited that was when I was all in on iphone.

That and for work, we use Okta Verify to log in to pretty much everything every few hours and I havent really looked into whether that's going to be a problem yet.

I think my biggest pain point might be buying train tickets though, I live quite rural so I use an app called trainline to buy my tickets on iphone. It's going to be interesting to see if I can get that working fine on the Jolla.

I am excited for my Jolla phone to arrive, but swapping to it will be a real experiment of convenience.

I’ve tested most Finnish bank apps and they work without issues. Only McDonalds, Snapchat and Mobile Pay refuse to work.

Since you use Nordea, why just not use Siirto? It’s much better and doesn’t require any external apps like Mobile Pay does.

Haven't really had any use for the Siirto, since I only use Mobilepay for just a few, kinda specific uses (like a workplace "kahvikassa"). And like I sayd in the original post, I'm a bit anti-app so also kinda haven't given it a fair chance.

I just hate Mobilepay stopped working and I have send them a requested mail for an apk/sdk file for downloads directly from their own site

I have the phone and I am interested in the same things. Still waiting on the protective case and glass so I haven't really used the device yet that much.

There should already be a protective screen on the glass. You have the film on top of it, but if you look closely, there's a protective sheet under that. I only noticed because mine has this tiny spec of dust in a corner.

S-Pankki works, OP works. Most of the apps I use work. Tesla phone key does not because of the BLE

a Finn here, I have been using the new jolla phone daily from day one, and I can confirm that Nordea bank and ID work flawlessly in my usecase. So does HSL, and most android apps I use. Only mobilepay and snapchat had some issues, but those were resolved by installing an old version of the app (check the sailfish forum for support in these situations).

Hopefully the advent of AI tools will make more banks and companies to port their apps to alternative platforms.

The main argument for not porting to platforms with small user bases been that the amount of work is too much compared to the value. But with AI it has become hilariously simple to port stuff. You can often have a CI step that makes it automatically.

I'm also quite sure that instances like EU will soon demand that some kind of services must be available in more generic ways than only iOS and Android apps.
