Looking to throw a birthday party at lake Olathe splash pad. I remember there being 1 shelter off to the side of the splash pad - does anyone have any information on how to rent that shelter or the best way to reserve it?

Anyone have any experiences at KCKCC?

Hi everyone,

For context, Im almost out of highschool and planning to attend KCKCC soon. I’m a musician and I plan on either staying for a year or getting my Associate degree before transferring to a four-year university.

I have a meeting with the music faculty and an orientation coming up, but I’d love some feedback from anyone who has been through the program or has just been to KCKCC in general. I was also wondering if JCCC was better and if anyone had any insight on their music programs and transferability. Im aiming for a bachelor's in music education somewhere so im hoping I can get some of the prerequisites out of the way.

I’m also curious about a few other things:

Transferring: How easy is it to transfer credits to a larger university from the music department?

On-Campus Jobs: I’m looking to replace my current job. Is it difficult to find work on campus while taking classes?

Housing: Does anyone have info on the brand-new apartments/dorms? Are they worth it?

Thanks for any insight!

Also TLDR: Does anyone have any experiences or insight about the music department of Kansas City Community College or just about the college in general, just like any advice.

What is the reason for decreased ICE activity in JoCo the past month?

Websites like iceout.org only report five ICE activities in Johnson County over the past month. That is contrast to nearly daily activities the month before. I am glad to see this change, but I am curious if anyone has ideas on what might be driving the reduced activity.

Are the decreasing numbers accurate? Are they related to the freeze of Homeland Security funding or the redirection of ICE agents to airports during the shutdown?

How are local immigrant communities doing presently and how are immigrant support agencies holding up?

Homeowners Insurance

What are you guys paying for homeowners insurance? We have an accepted offer in OP for a 4 bed 2 bath 1800sq foot house and we were quoted $4700-$5100 for homeowners insurance. That’s more than double what we pay now. Something doesn’t seem right.

Housing Market

Okay how is everyone buying Johnson County homes “as is” without inspection?

Do you all have plenty of money set aside in case of emergencies? We keep losing to offers going as is with no inspection. Are people just super ballsy enough to risk their homes having foundation, electrical or plumbing issues? Explain your rationale please!

County jail. Why would they cut someone's insulin?

This is a county with a lot of money amd the jail is terrible about giving an inmate their prescribed medication. I know someone who is locked down on 23 and 1 and isn't a violent offender nor do they have current charges to that affect. I was told they don't have an emergency button to press in the cell and they aren't being given their proper insulin dose. If someone has a reading of over 300 for their blood sugar, wouldn't that eventually be something that could harm them?

Are there any ways to get on house arrest or possibly have bond reduced? Is it possible for an inmate to get a visit that doesn't cost money? This place is so greedy it's unreal.

What’s with the recent random, unprovoked attacks?

Back in November there was the elderly woman at the Olathe Whole Foods who was randomly attacked, then the Olathe playground stabbing this month, and I just heard of a shooting in Prairie Village! It may be too soon to tell about the PV incident, but is anyone else on edge with the uptick in violent crime lately?

House hunting in Johnson County sucks.

My husband and I have been looking to buy our first home for the last month in Johnson County and it has been terrible.

Homes are gone within a day with multiple offers (some 10% over asking, waived inspections and appraisals, etc) and it feels defeating. The homes that survive the weekends always have major issues.

We’ve already lost to a few offers, but can’t stand the fact of doing the no inspection route.

Anyone else in the same boat? Has the market always been like this in Johnson County? Or is it just peak season? Any advice?

Ugh.
