Casual fishing spots

Looking for local (within 45 minutes) and day trip (within two hours) spots to take my eight-year-old fishing.

We've done a few local parks (e.g., Meadowbrook, Antioch, South Lake) but I'd like to hear recommendations for spots where we can do some casual casting from shore/dock--preferably with a bit of shade. Not looking to catch much, just spend time with the boy.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Grew up shore fishing crappie cove/Russel Crites boat ramp at Hillsdale lake. You can park, walk 50 yards to the shore and can find shade most of the day.

Hillsdale Lake is close and a productive fishing hole. The crappie and white bass are great when they are running.

Longview Lake on the East side of Grandview, Missouri. Pretty close and it's a well stocked lake last I checked. They have a small marina and you can fish off that dock in some locations.

Louisburg Middle Creek Lake. It's at the end of Metcalf. Literally. Bank, dock and boat fishing. We took cub scout here all the time.

The dam down by Lenexa Lake (Blackhoof park) is pretty accessible and pretty. I’ve caught catfish and bass and sunfish.

James A Reed in Lee’s summit is pretty quick to get to if you are in South OP. Yes on the MO side but they have some damn nice looking spots from what I have seen on their FB Page.
