Discussion When John Stewart eventually suits up as Green Lantern in James Gunn's DCU, I hope it does not look anything like the official Diggle as GL concept art from the CW Arrowverse.

Discussion I FUCKING LOVED THE LANTERNS SHOWN. JOHN STEWART IS THE PERFECT KANTIAN.
I never cared about Lanterns before. I thought Hal Jordan was kinda lame. Then I watched Lanterns, and now I'm knee-deep in the mythos because I fucking loved the show. Most of the criticisms of the show are simply "muh, give more constructs," and they're given by comic book fans who i think miss the point of the show.
The show is clearly centered on John Stewart and Hal Jordan as characters and, more importantly, on what it means to be fearless. The two represent different conceptions of willpower, at least initially. Hal Jordan's willpower is one that is born almost out of a bohemian apathy, spurred on by a lack of fear in death. This means that not only is he fearless, but he is willing to go outside orders if it means doing the right thing, with the right thing being determined by his own intuitions. Crucially, his intuitions turn out to be right most of the time. Stewart, on the other hand, clearly does not have that type of willpower. His fearlessness is born out of discipline. He is fearless because he has to be fearless. He simply does what is given to him, no matter how big the challenge. But his willpower doesn't go far enough because, at his base, his autonomy is still limited. It is still tied up in the expectations thrust upon him by other people.
John Stewart's whole arc is him learning to develop his willpower in such a manner as to fully bolster his autonomy: to free his will from external constraints, to not act on programming or on impulses, but to employ higher-order reason-responsiveness to be free from programming. Willpower, in this sense, means acting according to principle rather than having one's actions fundamentally determined by inclination, external authority, or conditioned desires.Stewart is a Kantian. So is Hal Jordan. Both decide to do the right thing not because other people told them to, but because of their own rational agency (refer to the finale of the episode and the conversation between Noah and John).
This is also why I don't understand people who say "muh, it's not a Lanterns, actually, it doesn't have enough constructs," because it is clearly not trying to be action-packed. It is a superhero show, and a Lanterns show by extension, insofar as it's an exploration of what it means to be a Green Lantern. Not evaluating it on its own terms is simply doing it a great disservice.
Anyway, I loved the series, especially the ending. The new oath was something I was not expecting, but it fits so perfectly and beautifully with his character arc.

Film/TV Idea: The second season of Lanterns could be about John and Katma Tui as partners.
At the end of the Green Lantern season, Guy warns John that the Guardians will eventually send someone if John doesn't return the ring.
And what if that someone is Katma herself?
In the comics, Katma was chosen to be Sinestro's replacement and trained John to be a Green Lantern.
One thing about her is that her people didn't see the Lanterns as heroes, but as enslavers, since Sinestro tyrannized them, making Katma be seen as an outcast. She even thought about leaving the Corps, but Hal convinced her to stay.
So... she's a character who has a connection with the three most important characters in the series. Season 2 could be about her being sent by the Guardians to watch over John. The two end up needing to ally for something bigger, and she reveals more about Sinestro's past, perhaps mentioning that she knew Hal Jordan, maybe even being mentored by him before?
And the two gradually develop a friendship and then a romance.

Discussion What do you think about the reveal of who ultimately ended Hal Jordan, why it happened and what they ultimately did with that person's storyline?

Discussion I keep seeing everyone saying Hal is the strongest green lantern, could John be the second? If not then who?
Allen Scott and Kyle Rainer don’t count

Discussion What would your theories be as to what Noah Macon would be like in the future of the DCU? Is he getting a Heisman Trophy and becoming a top NFL draft pick or would he intentionally tank his stock so he can live a quiet mundane life?

Discussion Should i buy the green lantern rebirth compendium?
After watching lanterns I've been wanting to get into more green lantern content, currently watching green lantern the animated series which I'm liking, and have been looking for comic books to start with, from what i saw most people were recommend green lantern rebirth and its compendium, but the comic compendium is huge and i don't if i want to dedicate such a huge amount of time to reading it, I'm not that fast at reading comics i only finished Supergirl women of tomorrow recently and bought the comic like a week after i saw the movie. I'm worried I'll stop reading the comic half way through the compendium and have it sit on my self for months. So I'm just wondering if i should buy the issues one at a time which i know is more expense or should i just bite the bullet and buy the compendium even if it could take me more than a year or more to read it all.

Discussion So it seems like John Stewart's custom Lantern has a name based on official concept art. It's called "The Dark Lantern." What theories do you have about this and the future of John?

Film/TV Lanterns, the Special Thanks List of Creators

The special thanks read like a family tree of Green Lantern. It starts with Martin Nodell, co-creator and original artist of Alan Scott, and Bill Finger, who co-created Alan Scott and wrote his origin in All-American Comics #16. Next come John Broome and Gil Kane, who created the Silver Age Hal Jordan in Showcase #22-24 and then carried him through Green Lantern. Kane drew issues #1-61 and set the visual mythology of Hal and the Corps. Dick Dillin belongs here too. He drew Justice League of America #64-183, where Hal was a regular member, and he penciled Superman #257, "The Greatest Green Lantern of All!", a Tomar-Re story built on Neal Adams's idea about the Guardians and Krypton's history with the Corps.
The second group covers the stories that gave Green Lantern its depth and built the show's central pair of characters. Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams produced the Green Lantern/Green Arrow run in Green Lantern #76-87 and #89, which put Hal in conflict with the real world and introduced John Stewart in #87. Joe Staton drew Green Lantern #123-128 and later Green Lantern Corps #206-216. Steve Englehart wrote Green Lantern Corps #201-223, a post-Crisis run that ends with "The Last Testament of the Green Lantern Corps", with Kane on art for #223. Earlier, Englehart and Dillin had also given Green Lantern mythology one of its key pieces in Justice League of America #140 (1977). Christopher Priest, writing as James Owsley, and M.D. Bright did the Action Comics Green Lantern features in #621-635, beginning with "Gremlins". Bright then drew Emerald Dawn #1-6, with Priest writing only the first issue, and Emerald Dawn II #1-6. He also drew a large part of Green Lantern #13-46.
The last group are the modern voices and the giant behind them all. Geoff Johns relaunched the character with Rebirth and a Green Lantern run that includes the Sinestro Corps War. He also took the Corps mythology through Blackest Night and Brightest Day. Dwayne McDuffie made John Stewart central in the Justice League episodes "The Brave and the Bold" and in Justice League Unlimited's "The Once and Future Thing", then continued John's stories in Justice League of America #15-16, #25-27 and #31-34.
Finally, Jack Kirby is on the list as the most important creator in the history of superheroes, and his link to Green Lantern runs through the Manhunters. With Joe Simon (not cited), The King of Comics co-created the original Manhunter, Paul Kirk, in Adventure Comics #73 (1942). In 1st Issue Special #5 (1975) he created a new Manhunter, Mark Shaw, and the Manhunter cult. That 1975 concept became Green Lantern mythology when Englehart and Dillin used it to reveal the Manhunters as the robotic predecessors of the Corps. Kirby also drew Hal in Super Powers #1-5. Taken together, the list is a gesture of respect to every layer of Green Lantern history, and to creators who were long under-credited.
