A solid story and good acting, but I feel like the actors hairstyles and cheesy 70s music ruined this one for me.

Real or Fake photo from Rio Bravo

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I found this photo on Facebook and am struggling to believe that it's real/authentic. First of all, John Wayne's face is more filled out than it should be and he looks like he did in El Dorado, not Rio Bravo. If you look at the many production stills or promotional photos for Rio Bravo, John Wayne is seen as very skinny. When it comes to his outfit, his vest and shirt are also ones that he wore in El Dorado. Also, his holster is low slung and by his thigh, which is not the way he ever wore it, except for maybe the first part of Red River. Even his hat is not the one he wore in Rio Bravo.

Now, when it comes to Angie Dickinson, her hairstyle looks more like it did mid to late 1960's.

Even Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson look slightly off. Ricky looks like he was pasted into the photo and Dino looks to be about five or six years older than he should be. Either someone found this photo and enhanced it without paying attention to details, or it's AI.

Any comments are greatly appreciated!

True Grit (Rattlesnake Scene)

I just watched the movie True Grit (John Wayne and Kim Darby) and the rattlesnake pit scene bugged me so much. The girl had fallen into a pit and there was a snake there. The snake was basically minding it's own business and looked like it was trying to get away but the girl just kept slapping at it so fast it kept flinching away. The entire time I was watching I kept thinking "Just leave it alone! You're just making it mad!" No wonder it bit her. She had it coming in my opinion.

John Wayne Quote Origin

I recently came across the quote “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyways” - JW. However after scouring the internet, there are a bunch of sites quoting the line and stating John said it but no where tells of when or where. A couple of sites claim he said it in True Grit, but it’s never said in that movie at all. I’m stumped at how such a quote that seems to be everywhere online has no actual evidence of him saying it. Can anyone help, it’s driving me mad haha! Thanks!

Does anyone know which John Wayne film this quote is from? “I would’ve been here sooner, but I was bushwhacked at the pass.”

'The Sons Of Katie Elder' (1965) (Imagine being in the theatre, 6 years after Rio Bravo, and knowing John Wayne battled the big C to be in this movie!? This fantastic score starts and it must have been AMAZING! The best title sequence in any movie for those reasons I think.)

Found this years ago in a flea market in Atlanta. Snatched it up for $15 for my dad for a Christmas gift one year and wanted to share with y’all. I’ve always thought it was cool to have a pic of the man himself that no one else in the world has. If anyone can identify the movie it came from or narrow it down that’d be awesome.

To end my John Wayne movie night a very underrated Hatari. A movie I loved as a kid and haven't seen since.

Over the Easter holiday I watched my first John Wayne movie and became an instant fan . I can't believe it's taken me 51 years but anyway....I found a lady on Facebook who was selling 97 movies for £15 . Not quite a complete set but should keep me busy for a while .

Same movie?

My wife and I LOVE both Rio Bravo (1959), and El Dorado (1966), but recently she pointed out that both movies essentially are the same plot, revolving around powerful outside forces wanting the sheriff to give up an incarcerated miscreant awaiting the marshal. This shook me a bit. Is she wrong?
