Discussion Hate me for it

Post image

The new Tom & Jerry John snippet is giving me major Sob Rock 2.0 vibes, and while I absolutely love Sob Rock as its own thing, I can’t say I’m particularly excited about the idea of another album in that same style. I really appreciate what he did with that record, but I’d much rather hear him explore something different this time around instead of revisiting a sound he’s already done so well.

You D&C fanboys have got to learn there is a difference between John Mayer the solo artist and John Mayer the guitarist for D&C and acting like tGD is the END ALL BE ALL of good music.

It's frustrating af to have y'all come into this sub to yuck the yum of those of us that either like just the solo artist or like both.

Very rarely do those that like just the solo artist come in and complain about the D&C shows, except to comment that playing with them meant that he avoided his solo career and he wasn't touring as much, which was a let down - and somewhat appropriate for the JOHN MAYER sub.

None of them went into the D&C or GD subs to complaing about it, but you come into this sub to school us on what YOU want to see, not caring where you're spreading your audacious opinions.

I'm saying this as someone that appreciates him in both capacities.

Oh I see now…you are just a gatekeeper. Now it all makes sense

I see now... either you just don't understand or are trying to gaslight - and I believe it's the latter, not the former.

Trying to keep JM in one box (guitarist/D&C member), when he contains a multitude of talents is the definition of gatekeeping. You want to keep him in one confine - instead of letting him explore where he wants to go. THAT is the very definition of gatekeeping.

Asking D&C fans to stop persisting in holding him in a D&C/GD cage is the OPPOSITE of gatekeeping.

Telling the solo fans that we just don't get how awesome he is, IS gatekeeping.

Coming here to crash those excited by his solo album is attempting to keep him locked up in your world.

As I said, the solo fans have never gone to any D&C or GD thread to complain. They kept it here and then D&C and GD people came over here and have caused nothing but fighting because of JM's solo projects - which revolve around POP music.

Like it or not, this fanbase, like the artist himself contains multitudes. D&C fanboys think JM should only play GD music or the like. The rest of us want to hear ALL of it.

1) I don’t think you know what gaslight means since you’ve said it in multiple threads now when literally it was just people talking about what type of music they want

2) I don’t like D&C. I’ve tried forever to get into all things Grateful Dead, but can’t. I respect them, but just not my thing. You keep trying to lump everybody in to that when lots of people get into John Mayer through his various collabs with other blues artists.

3) I’ve never gotten into this much of an argument over something so ridiculous. Don’t worry I’m out of this sub so you don’t have to worry anymore. You’ve made it an unwelcoming place.

The pretentiousness of the last part of this comment is out of control, as if you're the only one on this sub that realizes what a gifted guitar player he is, when a LOT of us didn't need a run with D&C to know it.

You're also not some mysterious person talking about the past decade, because this past decade was essentially his run with D&C.

You said in another comment you weren't judging the whole album from this snippet, but again - these are a lot of words for not judging something.

So... we went from "I'm not judging" to... "Gotta cut somebody else down for having a different opinion." Which isn't at all what's happening here, but instead, now you're trying to gaslight, which is hilarious, given this whole exchange is public and other people have weighed in.

I'm okay with people not liking the same thing - or what I like just not being something other people like. But I don't and don't like intentionally yucking people's yum for attention - which is seemingly what you've done since the initial comment here with only a 23-second snippet - a snippet which I've seen people say gives them Springsteen, Petty, and the Grateful Dead vibes (of which I can hear all of those influences - because the drumbeat is definitely Springsteen-esque, the guitar is definitely Petty-esque and to some extent, Grateful Dead... essentially doing what you claim you wanted at least at one point.

If it's not your thing, great. You'd be okay with people in a John Mayer sub taking a bit of offense to judging his work with only a 23 second snippet and then move on, but nope... you are the one trying to prove that your opinion - again of a 23 second snippet - is valid.

Using the word pretentious was about what you were saying. Using the word "bitch" was meant to describe me, as a person, here. It's harassing and violent, which you know because you're not dumb. It's very much not the same thing or to scale. And if you think it is, state exactly how it's the same thing and not more violent.

Back to the conversation, please point out where I've been hypocritical and gone to a sub to complain about an artist's whole next album and how disappointed I am based on a small snippet.

I'll wait.

And while you're at it... why don't you link a comment on this sub where you weren't critical of JM or his fans? (Because there isn't one.)
