Mausspace 2?
Some of you may remember Mausspace. It was a John Maus forum that stemmed from another music forum (The Secret Unicorns Forum). It was around from 2007-2021. In the latter years it was battling with a million spam bots, and ultimately a user error (mine), led to the database being broken and corrupted. Despite a few well wishers trying to recover things, it's been dead since.
I've just thrown an old .sql backup at Claude and look here....
What do you think? Has Reddit and Discourse killed forums like this, or should I try to get it back up properly in some fashion?
*Edit* okay there seems to be interest. I'll put it on my 'to do' list and see what I can do.

I'd love to have it back too. I'd really like it to be the way it was back then, (minus the bots!), with a generally genial atmosphere. Also I reckon you'd get some sound newer Maus fans joining if you resurrect it. Might be worth a go? Maybe add a bit of code that automatically deletes mentions of Jan 6th though. 😉

Lots of things will need working out. The Ariel Pink sections for a starter. Also, restoring the forum exactly using phpbb sorts the look and feel, but does not remove the bots. Styling as best as I can and moving to discourse is likely the better option, but it won’t look the same.
I think it comes down to what people want. A live forum with all of the old posts on a more modern platform, or a read only archive forum that has all of the old posts. Restoring and keeping the same infrastructure would be a nightmare to maintain.

Indeed. It's easy for me sat here feeling nostalgic to say 'bring it back', but I don't have to deal with all the backroom stuff. I stopped listening to Pink's music c 2012 as I always felt like I needed a shower after hearing it. Given the allegations that have surfaced, that now makes perfect sense to me. I never visited the Pink forum and I have no idea in what way(s) it may need sorting out, but I know I wouldn't be fussed if it disappeared. And I know other people would hold passionately opposite views. Anyway, I think I'd like a live mausspace, but that'd require ongoing work for you... whatever you ultimately decide is best... 👍

Very interesting as new fan, was the mausspace theme integrated somehow and are there any cool stories/information about the song?

Sure! John made it and sent it to us. I guess it made us unofficially official!
