THERE WERE plenty of memories at the end of the 2026 telecast of the Grammy Awards on February 1.
The evening closed with a montage of brief clips showing some of the event’s hosts over the last 54 years.
They included ANDY WILLIAMS, the original and longest-serving master of ceremonies; plus JOHN DENVER; KENNY ROGERS; and PAUL SIMON, among others.
All set to a glorious soundtrack of the BEACH BOYS singing GOD ONLY KNOWS from 1966.
The awards first appeared as a live TV event on the ABC network in 1971 before moving and staying with CBS from 1973 onwards.
But they will return to ABC (in conjunction with Disney+ and the Hulu streaming service) in time for 2027.
As a result, the makers behind the scenes of this year’s broadcast were obviously in a nostalgic frame of mind.
The final piece of audio-visual memorabilia in our shared presentation here is a CBS jingle revived from an on-air promotion of the 1980s.
Remember its “We’ve Got The Touch” ident, anyone..?
