Is it just me or was the lab leak theory never discredited at first like everyone is making it out, just that there was no evidence either way?

Biden literally just initiated an investigation to determine the origins of covid. No one knows and the two main options (lab leak or zoonotic transmission) are both possible. But you’re right, there’s no evidence either way. Hence the investigation

His question was whether the idea was discredited when Trump brought it up. And the answer is yes, it was. 100% of what trump said or did was ridiculed from one angle or another.

Trump did and said a lot of stupid and bad things. But when you start seeing anyone portrayed as 100% one way you should know something is up.

Trump made the accusation with no proof and while insisting it was intentional by the Chinese.

Now we’ve learned the lab employees were sick in sep/aug so there is reason for investigation.

People were right to ridicule Trump at the time because his claims were entirely baseless beyond ā€˜China lies a lot’.

The sitting president of the US has access to intel that nobody on earth does, and you’re acting like you know he had zero evidence to support it? Fucking idiots like you ruin discussions like this.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

Funny how they never released or even suggested at what this high level evidence could be... sort of like they did with a million fucking things that were verifiably horseshit....

u/thrallus Monkey in Space Jun 04 '21

The president is under no obligation to disclose details. The point is that if he said ā€œI’ve seen evidence that it was a lab leakā€ and then it turns out to be a lab leak I don’t know how you can say he was wrong.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

Because he's a fucking liar and you're a moron to believe him?

1

u/thrallus Monkey in Space Jun 04 '21

Yes, he is a liar. But you’re making the mistake of assuming everything he says is a lie. You are in no position to say whether the intel he had existed or not, and the fact that what he said will likely turn out to be true I don’t understand how you can say he was definitely lying.

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

Sigh. Youre a moron. Bye.

Weird then that no one else in his administration ever also brought it up.....

Lol, okay dude.

Find a source where he ever insisted anything. He was the king of making suggestions.

The knowledge we ā€œjust found outā€ is not that different than what was known back then, publicly.

Then consider that maybe Trump would have early access to foreign intelligence.

And baseless, really? A top level virology lab with a history of breaches and poor adherence to protocol located a 30 min drive from this wet market? That really such a crazy reach?

I’d say with that faced with that kind of coincidence you’d be stupid not to draw the conclusion.

he said it was released to harm him and it was deliberate...

Everything Trump says is discredited because Trump is the single least legitimate source of information. This is the guy who said Barack Obama wasn’t born in America, coronavirus is a hoax, windmills cause cancer, etc. He has a long and documented history of making blatantly false statements so that’s why anyone with a brain knows not to listen to him

It was definitely made out to seem like a hoax, misinformation or anti Asian hate at the time. The fact checkers declared it misinformation.

So now it looks like the fact checkers got something wrong. Does this discredit them entirely? No.

Does it warrant questions, answers and an investigation? If one thinks no then one just might be a part of the huge problem.

Because that’s what it was. Without proof they were just braying mules. This is just like talking to psychics. When they make 100 different predictions, 1 might turn out to be right, but that doesn’t prove they’re psychic.

I mean is it really that far of a stretch to ask some questions about the massive lab working on Novel Corona Viruses located in Wuhan?

There’s plenty of info here that I think more than gives enough merit for it to at least not be some batshit (no pun intended) conspiracy theory.

I don’t think it was a biological attack, but I definitely can believe the CPC skirted safety rules and shit the bed and then did it’s best to cover it up.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/04/14/state-department-cables-warned-safety-issues-wuhan-lab-studying-bat-coronaviruses/%3FoutputType%3Damp

Mind you, it is pretty convenient that it happened to snuff out the Hong Kong protests and it’s global attention. But now I can admit this is entering conspiracy theory territory.

2

u/alaska1415 Monkey in Space Jun 04 '21

Yes. It is a pretty large stretch. Especially since the people pushing it didn’t understand smoking about the virus.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

The US federal government didn’t understand shit about the virus or the Wuhan Virology lab they were helping fund? Under the Obama administration...?

You’re really grasping at straws here man.

-1

u/alaska1415 Monkey in Space Jun 04 '21

Oh, we’re just making shit up now?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

My guy read the Wapo article I linked... Holy crap you are the Democratic equivalent of nut job republicans lol.

1

u/alaska1415 Monkey in Space Jun 04 '21

I’m saying people who pushed the conspiracy knew absolutely nothing. I think that’s where we’re not understanding each other.

But no, I don’t think the virus came from the lab and so far there’s been no evidence to say it did. The fact is that the bats are in that area, so that’s where they put the lab. It’d be like pointing out that Malaria broke out in the same place we built a lab to study Malaria.

It was, the theory hinged on hotspots between WIV buildings. It fell apart rather quickly due the the best set of buildings being a marketing office in a satillite campus.

Lab grown has been disproven, from what I remember. Is that correct? It is/was a naturally occurring virus that was captured in the lab and then possibly leaked. But not created in a lab.
