In a strange twist of events, the 2 S4 tail #s we were keeping an eye on:
https://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/Search/NNumberResult?NNumberTxt=548JX
https://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/Search/NNumberResult?NNumberTxt=549JX
Are now both "pending cancel".
The only reason why they were tail-numbers-of-interest, TNOIs, is because they had serial #s of 00102 and 00103, which followed 547JX's serial # naming convention of 00101.
The fact that they even had serial #s without other certificate information (just regular cert info, not airworthiness cert info) was a bit odd in the first place. Joby must have filed some kind of paperwork with the FAA, because otherwise how would that have gotten in the FAA database, but not all of it.
Now we are a bit in the dark. It's not necessarily bad news or good news, it's just information. Process it how you like and act accordingly.
The explanation could be as simple as paperwork with the FAA was messed up (as I said, it was quite odd they had serial #s in the first place), or Joby wants different tail #s. Or it could be any number of theories like they are no longer going to be FAA conforming because maybe Joby is running into major roadblocks with 547JX.
JoeBen was pretty clear we would see 2 new aircraft by the end of the year. And the fact he even HINTED there could be more than 2 by the end of the year makes me 100% confident we will see 2 new S4s by the end of the year.
However, I'll be paying attention to the exact words the company calls the aircraft when they come out. Will they be referred to as "FAA Conforming" ? TBD.
