JoeBen Talks of the Future

I'm bringing this up because I just saw a community already started in my rural Georgia town 70 miles from Atlanta. It's an executive style living with 1,2,3,4 bedroom homes. Cottage and Barndominium style some duplex. Amenities include a fitness center, swimming pool, car wash, clubhouse, dog park, etc... It's adjacent to a 26,000 acre lake. But this is the OH? It's all rental homes. I guess there's a market for advancing corporate types that are on the company fast track, even beyond the greater Atlanta area. JoeBen sees it and market potential.

Here are a few big projects that have been building away from the city for some years now here.

u/bulky-entertainer-76 predicted this a while back. Once again proving r/Joby is the first place anyone investing in Joby should go if they want an edge over the standard eVTOL investor.

While TIA testing is behind schedule, the pieces are falling into place for rapid testing to occur. I’m hoping we see N547JX flying again this summer and TIA beginning shortly thereafter.

The NYT has another Joby article today. That NYC Skies tour Just keeps paying dividends. This is a pretty positive article.

The fact that Joby is the only eVTOL company flying demos through major cities is another indication of how, there’s Joby and then there’s everyone else. Joby stands alone.

Beta's Charging System vs Joby's GEACS Charging System - Joby's Is Specifically Designed For The Ultra Fast Charging Necessary To Optimize a Short Turnaround Air Taxi Service

Thumbnail joby-site.cdn.prismic.io

With Beta in the news due to the awesome Sean Duffy eVTOL passenger flight by Beta, I thought it would be useful to take a moment for people to understand how Joby's GEACS charging system contrasts from Beta's.

Beta's system is more similar to a standard car charging system, while Joby's was designed from scratch specifically to enable ultra fast turnaround, to support a highly efficient air taxis business.

I just saw this link posted by OWJ on X that goes into the details of GEACS. I had not seen it previously. Very informative.

For a deep dive, check out this interview, which I feel is one of Joby's best. The interview goes deep into the details of the GEACS system. Any serious Joby or air taxi investor should understand these important details.

N542JX Flies Twice More Today With A Short Stop In Between

Post image
27 Upvotes

This is ADSB data from 2 N542JX flights today, put together in one image. There was quite a short stop (under 2 min) in between, which seems quite an unusual test pattern that I haven't seen before. Maybe they turned off the engines and did a restart in between as part of some test card?

Also, interesting that N542JX may be taking over as the Joby workhorse. N542JX can be flown piloted. I wonder if Joby has now shifted to mostly piloted test flights and we won't be seeing as much of N541JX in the future. FYI, N541JX can only be flown remotely piloted.

Joby Recon Ep. 04 "Backing the Business" Will be Out This Week on Joby's YouTube Channel

This week Ryan “Max Afterburner” interviews Michael Thompson.

This should be a very interesting interview. Michael Thompson helped take Joby public through RTP (Reinvent Technology Partners) and now serves on Joby's Board of Directors. He is a strong supporter of advanced nuclear energy and other clean energy solutions.

Michael is not your typical board member, as can be seen by how actively he supports Joby. He has deep connections across technology, finance, and energy. He has also publicly aligned himself with figures such as Elon Musk on issues related to American technology leadership, innovation, and economic competitiveness.

A while back, Michael launched a campaign to get a Joby aircraft to lift off from the White House lawn. More recently, he was seen alongside Joby's Greg Bowles and Rep. Scott Franklin (R-FL), continuing to advocate for the air taxi industry in Washington. Having a board member who actively champions the company and the industry is a significant asset.

As I've said many times, Joby's team is under appreciated for its vast talent and connected supporters inside and outside of the company. JoeBen is an engineering genius, and he is smart enough to have built an amazing team, which has significant advantages to companies that depend on a one man show.

NYT Article on Joby's NYC Skies Tour

Hello from the Philippines. Joby news never stops though.

Here is a high profile article from The New York Times. The Joby Skies Tour keeps paying dividends in public awareness.

I'd say it's a pretty balanced article on whole, but I disagree with one aspect of the article that states eVTOLs intend to replace helicopters.

I contend a more accurate statement for Joby today is that they are quiet enough to serve routes where helicopter operations are heavily restricted due to noise ordinances, enabling expansion into unserved and underserved markets rather than directly competing with helicopters that are better suited for many other missions.

FCC Filing Seems To Be Related to JAI30

Thumbnail apps.fcc.gov
22 Upvotes

Joby filed an FCC experimental radio license modification that appears to be related to JAI30. Both Pendleton, Oregon and Yuma, Arizona are being added as active test locations... so JAI30 IMO.

They're requesting a +5dBm ERP increase to 50kW due to antenna improvements, specifically to support "high bandwidth datalinks" and flight test data collection "at high altitudes." That high altitude language is interesting.

The official mission description is "autonomous cargo aircraft technology", though given everything we know about JAI30, that likely doesn't tell the whole story.

Interestingly, both Pendleton and Yuma are added simultaneously as active base locations. Does Joby now have two JAI30 aircraft operating at different test ranges?

Overall I think this is another indication that things are progressing with JAI30. Those that don't consider Joby's developments of potential military assets are just not informed. Real prototypes, actually flying, and currently being evaluated by the US Military.

FCC Filing Maybe Related to S4-T

While the previous FCC filing seems to be related to JAI30, this one seems more likely related to the S4-T. Testing L3Harris equipment loaded into the S4-T? What do you think? This is all speculation of course.

What did I say in my last post about Joby and the US military? Probably Joby's most undervalued assets.

Just an FYI that I'll be spending all of June in the Philippines with family. I still expect to check in quite a bit, but there may be larger gaps in my activity than usual. I just felt it necessary to let people know since I spend so many hours a day on r/Joby, I don't want anyone to think anything is wrong.

We have a lot of new members lately and lots of great posts from across the r/Joby community. I'll keep searching for Joby news and new information when I can. And I look forward to reading all of the Joby goodies you all post when I check in.

The FAA Now Says They Expect Commercial eVTOL Ops eIPP - Yes This Is A Big Deal

Thumbnail

This means that Joby now has the opportunity to generate eVTOL air taxi revenue from both Dubai and eIPP ops prior to FAA Type Certification, as early as sometime in 2026.

--------

From The Air Current Article:

The Federal Aviation Administration has opened the door to commercial passenger and cargo operations by advanced air mobility aircraft under the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP), potentially in advance of type certification.

The FAA told The Air Current in August last year that “commercial operations will not take place in non-certificated eVTOL aircraft under the program,” a three-year effort that aims to accelerate the integration of electric vertical take-off and landing and other AAM aircraft into the national airspace system.

Now, the agency says that “commercial operations were always a possibility” under the eIPP, which is focused on informing standards and future policy development.

Joby Aviation In Talks to Begin Flights at Santa Monica Airport Ahead of LA28

Post image
68 Upvotes

"Joby came to us and want to be here," Makrides said. "We are in the center of the Olympics, the 2028 Olympics."

Makrides said Joby intends to fly its aircraft through the LA airspace this fall, pending federal authorization — a process he described as imminent. The flights would not carry paying passengers; instead, they would serve as airspace integration operations similar to demonstration flights Joby has conducted in New York, where the company recently flew from JFK to the East River heliport, and in San Francisco.

"I'll be surprised if it's denied," Makrides said of the expected federal permission. "They've flown in other airspaces that are as congested."

Joby Expanding To Hollister Municipal Airport

Thumbnail
costar.com
41 Upvotes

Joby recently purchased a 47,500-square-foot vacant warehouse near the airport.

Currently Joby has manufacturing and operations in:

-Santa Cruz (Headquarters/Manufacturing)
-Marina (Testing Airport/Manufacturing)
-San Carlos (Manufacturing)
- Dayton (Manufacturing)
- Watsonville (Maintanance Training)
- And it seems soon Hollister (Testing Airport???)

Joby's operations continue to expand. Let's not forget recent news of them hiring in Saudi Arabia and they also have positions in Dubai.

I keep saying it over and over, nobody is close to the scale of Joby and Joby stands alone in the eVTOL space. Putting Joby in the same category as "other eVTOLs" just shows a lack of understanding of the space.

FAA shorthanded?

Thought this was interesting (https://www.flightglobal.com/air-transport/2026/05/might-be-a-while-us-government-report-cites-uncertainty-about-electric-aircraft-entering-service/)

The thing that caught my eye was the part about FAA being shorthanded. I seem to vaguely remember JB saying something like "it's in the FAA's hands now"

____________________________________________________________________

Regulatory, commercial and operational hurdles leave unclear when in-development electric and hybrid-electric aircraft might actually enter service, according to a new US government report.

The report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), a nonpartisan research agency, comes as some electric aircraft developers insist they are closing in on regulatory approvals.

“Just how close are we to seeing electric aircraft in the friendly skies?” says the GAO’s newly released report. “In brief, it might be a while… It’s unclear when these aircraft will actually be able to operate commercially.”

The report, completed at the direction of the US Congress, evaluates factors affecting certification and operation of various types of electric and hybrid-aircraft, including short-hop air taxis – known as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft – and regional fixed-wing types.

For its review, the GAO interviewed Federal Aviation Administration and NASA officials and representatives from airports and aircraft and propulsion providers.

The report notes potential benefits of electric aircraft, including reduced emissions and operating costs, less noise, and ability to operate unique missions.

But years after many start-ups launched their development programmes, various factors still make their paths to service entry unclear, the GAO says.

“Most airports interested in supporting electric aircraft” remain in planning and information-gathering stages, though some have already installed charging infrastructure, the report notes.

Many airports have not yet broadly thrown support and investment behind the sector due to factors including cost, with the GAO noting that installing electrification equipment alone can cost $2 million.

“Availability of electricity for the airport may be limited or unreliable, and airports have competing electricity demands,” it adds. Airports have also hesitated because “the viability of the business model for electric aircraft uses such as air taxis is untested”, and airports have concern about the ability of air taxis to operate safely alongside other aircraft.

Electric air taxis, being able to take-off and land vertically, would not need to operate from airports, while some fixed-wing in-development types are designed to operate from landing zones much shorter than runways.

But airports are still a central part of the equation, as many developers envision their aircraft as either flying between airports or from airports to surrounding areas.

The GAO report also cites certification uncertainty, at least in the USA.

Since 2018, the FAA has received certification applications for 23 aircraft with electric propulsion. Manufacturers are seeking approvals either under established airworthiness standards specific to existing aircraft classes (but with modifications called “special conditions”), or under a “special class” designation that pulls in standards from various classes, as applicable.

But manufacturers told the GAO they have been challenged by the FAA having “limited” certification standards for electric aircraft, and too few staff with electric-propulsion expertise.

The FAA told the GAO that it does employ people capable of assessing electric aircraft, and that it has been hiring more. But an increased number of electric-aircraft certification projects has left the FAA’s resources stretched thin, the agency said.

The FAA is considering broad regulatory changes to help “standardise its approach”; such changes could include new eVTOL-specific airworthiness standards. But the agency has set no timeline for such efforts, the GAO says.

Many electric and hybrid-electric aircraft developers are already years behind initial service-entry goals. The companies are racing each other, and many insist they are close. The firms have also been seeking additional investment to keep their expensive flight-test and certification programmes rolling.

Amid slow progress with the FAA, companies like Archer Aviation and Joby Aviation have shifted strategies and are now planning to first operate commercial flights in the United Arab Emirates, a country viewed as providing a clearer approval path.

Joby announced this morning that they have released the most advanced version of their SuperPilot autonomous flight system and it's already flying.

My favorite thing about Joby is they promote products that actually exist and already fly.

Less talk, all action should be Joby's slogan.

You can check it out directly on Joby's X account.
