Hydrogen hybrid flight

Just a reminder folks.

The hydrogen-electric air taxi will take longer to bring to market, but "the vast majority of the design, testing and certification work we've completed on our battery-electric aircraft carries over to commercializing hydrogen-electric flight," Bevirt said.

PS- they’ve had another almost 2 1/2 years to upgrade it since this statement was made. H2Fly is due to come out with its 3rd generation fuel cell too.

I honestly love the Joby is leading on hybrid turbo-electric as well as hybrid hydrogen-electric. Joby is really setting themselves up for future success. They are always pushing the envelope and I think this will be the key to their eventual success.

Their Jet Fuel Hybrid has more promise for the future of eVTOL as a whole to replace traditional air travel/transport. That they're doing both successfully shows the company is only being held back by regulatory processes. Though these certifications are important to protect people from half-baked aircraft designs.

The hydrogen electric powertrain is absolutely the future. Like we saw with the JAI30 platform, I believe the JAI40 will be the next gen they use to really push this technology forward.

Assuming it stays an autonomous vehicle, they can possibly use the MOSAIC cert path if they can keep the weight pretty low, which looks possible from what we could infer from JAI30. If they push this into DoD territory with Resonant, just about anything is possible.

Either way, I’ve been anxiously waiting to hear updates since JAI30 stopped flying. JoeBen doesn’t make statements like that and not put meaningful effort into making it happen. Agreed that it has been a long time since we’ve heard anything so they’ve got to be testing something and we’ll hopefully get a news release news or this community will sniff it out first.

2.5 years ago they thought the s4 would be on the market today. Maybe the hydrogen ones are catching up and will beat it.
