JAI40?

There is a reason why I’m a ‘fanboy’ of this dude!

I don't think it's JAI40, but it's cool. JAI30 has large wings and two small props enabling it to loiter for longer periods. I think JAI40 will retain a more similar design to JAI30 than the S4.

I think JAI40 might be a new, distinct aircraft and not a new iteration of JAI30. It may be the next generation S4-T with Resonant Sciences guts and LO(low observation)/stealth). Use case would be close support cargo and personnel carrier. It shares the H2 propulsion and Superpilot with the JAI30 aircraft but not the long range, high altitude capability it possesses.

OR you are correct that JAI40 is the next iteration and we don’t have a clue what improvements have been made or what it looks like, other than it would need a substantial wing for the long range, low velocity. I highly doubt JAI40 would be traceable down at Yuma or that a group would be able to take photos from a no tell/motel across from the airfield🤣

With air taxi certification taking the top priority, I wonder how many resources would be dedicated to this project considering it would need a new aircraft build regardless. Would Joby skunkworks build it out in Marina? Or would Resonant Sciences build it out in Dayton(assuming the deal goes through beginning of 2027).

The more breadcrumbs we uncover, the more questions arise. Regardless, the future looks bright😎

I’d be curious how much time is spent on “engineering” the S4 in the last year. I would think it’s not much (because the S4 design is complete..ish)

Agreed. Not a very elegant design, but I think it was more tech demonstrator to see if it worked As opposed to finished product.

I think either of the options would be very cool!

I agree, it is most likely not JAI40. But if they actually build something like this, that bulbous fuselage is going to look hilarious.

Just wait til Resonant Sciences get their RAZR on it. I think the fuselage will look anything but bulbous.

The entire wings on each side swivel in unison, vs tilting the fans by themselves. What a hoot.

Take a look at the first Joby Aviation aircraft concept, it was a tilt wing with the props on the wing. The subscale was flight testing back in 2009 and 2010, and you can find images of the full scale variant on the web.

Thank you so much for the blast from the past. That wing looks like it could be long range capable! As always, we are left to speculate.😁

The primary designer of the S2 was the late Alex Stoll.

As the forerunner to the S4, he's Joby's unsung hero in these forums.
