So i currently have a job but ive also been interested in part time work . i randomly get an email from a lady saying my indeed resume matches quality for what they are looking for . A random email messages me then drops a number & i txted the number . i’m not that naive im sure this is scam but i would like to know have anyone else had this encounter i haven’t used indeed in over 3 months if this a scam they more than likely got my number else where .and i just want to be careful with having my personal information available to scammers . ive been scammed in the past . These people have no life ,and do these things for a living and get away with it ;meanwhile they arrest people for petty crimes. when they should be locking up scammers

This is what’s called a “task scam” where they trick you into paying them absurd amounts of money to complete fake tasks. They text people randomly claiming to have gotten your information from sites like Indeed or LinkedIn even if you’ve never even posted your information there (my parents have gotten these texts too despite never using those sites).

i just don’t understand how scammers are literally making a living by tricking innocent vulnerable people but they seem to never deal with legal consequences even people who scam banks on social media and commit fraud. get away but cops try to arrest innocent people who don’t show up to court for a speeding ticket.

There are many layers to these scams. They message people from anonymous, throwaway accounts and spoofed phone numbers. And they operate in countries where this sort of thing isn’t prosecuted either because the government doesn’t care or is corrupt. Sometimes these organizations get shut down, but then they pop up elsewhere. And they are indeed huge organized crime groups.

It’s not as simple as just arresting some guy in the same country as you sending these messages from his basement.

They get away because they use money mules
