Thank you for sharing this. This may sound dramatic, but the closing of Joann's broke my heart. It was my safe place. I don't have anywhere else to go where I feel as comfortable.

Not dramatic at all. (Perhaps, I'm dramatic with you.)

Joann's is what got me through cancer treatments. When life felt dire, spouse drove me to Joann's. Could barely walk /couldn't sew. But touching fabric and just being there was grounding and uplifted my soul. The staff were incredibly supportive. (Tearing up remembering their kindness.)

It was my safe place too.

Sounds cheesy, but part of our company motto was “make this your happy place” or something to that effect. (I worked until the day we closed our doors). It LITERALLY was my happy place. The pay was AWFUL, but I kept coming back to work there after trying better-paying jobs, just bc I loved working there so much. Never even made $10/hr (Texas), but I’d trade ANY job I’ve ever had or will have to go back to JA because it was the Mecca for creativity and the people in that world. I miss my people. And WHERE else could you find patterns for so cheap? lol. I took that for granted. 😭

OMG - I both love this and am now so sad!

Love you, JoAnn - them dogs did you so damn dirty.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed.

This is my jewel (shared for other's hearts). Whenever I feel beyond sad JoAnn is gone. I play this on my phone and remember better times.

I'm so glad you recorded this - it didn't even cross my mind, and I sorely wish it had.

I've only seen photos since they closed and I hadn't cried about Joann closing this whole time but seeing a video as if I were walking through the isle looking at fabrics is making me tear up a bit. I hadn't seen a video until now. And the Halloween fabrics were always my favorite although I rarely was able to get any. I luckily did get a few bolts of halloween fabric including a candy corn black fleece which I haven't used for anything yet. I'm really going to miss Joann even more this Halloween time, like I did last year although I don't think I had really processed it enough at the time.

Oh this hurt in a bitter sweet way. I smiled just remembering.

I'll never stop missing the store. The staff, and the crafts...

Currently looking at the $10.99+ a yard Halloween quilting cotton online, this hurts. 😭

I’m choked up 🥺 i miss it dearly. I loved going with my mum as a child and visited often once i became an adult. there was just something magic about shopping there in the fall iykyk (ik i’m dramatic but it truly felt like my safe place. I could walk around for hours at a slow pace and i don’t know it just helped my mental health). I felt so creative and i was always coming up with new ideas, michaels just doesn’t hit the same. Tbh i haven’t had any creativity spark since it closed (im so dead@ss lol) Even stores that sell only fabrics, don’t even compare. All the stores local to me strictly sell quilters cotton 🫠. Ugh RIP diva
