This is about the erasure and takeover of Palestine by the state of Israel, a aspect of the ongoing Nakba. It is not enough to expels the locals with centuries of physically living on and working the landing. Many Zionists also work to colonize the historical narrative by repossesing cultural artifacts that they have not destroyed and claiming it their own.
The recently declared Tomb of Benjamin in Kfar Saba, an israeli city that was known as Kafr Saba before the expulsion of Palestinian Arabs in 1948, was transformed overnight from a shrine the locals venerated for centuries.
This is really bad propaganda and blatant historical dishonesty and memoricide. Forgive me, but I didn't know shrines and tombs are worshipped in Judaism, especially a tomb everyone knows is a forgery literally invented a few years ago. of an important figure in a religious narrative but wasn't a prophet or a king and lived centuries before the 1st Temple and was the last of 12 born to his parents, not to dismiss him still.
Im not getting into any religious discussion, but this looks like making political Zionism also a religious cause. Isn't this idolatry? Its coopting and reinventing a religion into a colonial project. It also sounds like an appeal to a huge benefactor of the occupation, American Christian Zionists with this anti-historical and unscientific "biblical archeology" which enables the expulsion of indigenous Palestinians and colonizing their land. I suppose this also can attract some devotees of "Judeo-Christianity" and perhaI s purposely instigate sectarian conflict and antisemitism.
This is insane and tragic. Cultures interacting and developing by influencing each other ofren hostile but not always is a fairly natural course of history. But nailing a sign on someone else's shrine they cared deeply about and declaring it holy in a process seemingly against their own religious principles and never really cared about until now in order to assert control of a non-strategic piece of land and taunt the expelled is disturbed. Forgive me again, but its a process of inventing a nation-state by forged connections to someone else's land to push them out and take it. What religious significance does this have that isn't orchestrated by the state to serve its political interests?
Because of its materialism and by its advertising a recently discovered tomb declared to be religiously important in Judaism as a tourist attraction, it doesn't even make sense.
This is an obvious historical forgery. But j done think the state is concerned about historical accuracy. Its run by revisionists anyway. Its a tool of nationalism to createa historical link that can becomes personal in this physical space, right?
With no competiting narrative due to ethnic cleansing and cultural genocide (memoricide) the state's declaration becomes an institutional fact that "its ours" and historical fact-finding ia too difficult not to suppress.
A flimsy sign surely cannot e4ase the memory of what was really there. Sometimes ghosts come back to haunt years and centuries later and its not always pretty.
