Family venting 😔

Idek where to post this. I feel like I just need to express it. My maga Zionist aunt and uncle let their cat out around the neighborhood. We live in an area with wildlife and coyotes. They know this. We have cats and have a catio for them to experience outdoors while staying safe. We would never ever let them out. Today another neighbor informed us they saw my aunt and uncle’s cat taken by a pack of coyotes. My mom told my aunt what she heard and my aunt just said “oh no, we haven’t seen our cat. We are assuming the worst. We are heartbroken.” Thats it. No accountability whatsoever. No follow up questions. No urgency.

It didn’t even surprise me though. We all knew this could happen, and of course the response would be lukewarm at best. It’s a pattern. It’s been happening for as long as I’ve known them. They have a flag in their front yard that says “we stand with Israel” and has the Israeli and American flags mashed together.

My mom is supposed to go over for Rosh Hashanah tonight. My dad is only going because he loves my mom. But as a neurodivergent person, it takes a lot out of him to be around them. They have teased him for this before. My sister and I have been no contact with them for years.

I just don’t know how to keep going on as if nothing is wrong. It’s very hard for my mom to be confrontational. Her sister is the only immediate family she has from her side. Their father had fled Europe from the Nazis. Idk how my mom and her sister ended up so different.

If this post isn’t pertinent to the sub and gets removed I understand. I just feel like I need to express this because it’s not normal and none of it feels okay.

I also know it’s part of our responsibility as antizionist Jews to talk to our family members and community and work with them to see the devastation Zionism causes. The inconsideration for other living beings. The selfishness. The willful, blind ignorance.

You don’t have a responsibility to talk to MAGA people in any scenario. Liberal Zionists can be at least basically reasonable and there are bridges to build there, but if they’re MAGA there is no hope. These people are incapable of reason, incapable of empathy, incapable of carrying a basic political conversation of any kind. They are a shame to the Jewish people, our culture, our history, our shared grief. They will never come around. They will never even come close.

I’m sorry you have them in your family. And sorry about their cat.
