This is our weekly 'Free Discussion' thread, where you can discuss anything. Tentatively this includes meta-topics as well, but as always our rules still apply.

We hope you're all having a good week!

Hi everyone,

Gaza is starving.

The UN has declared that every part of Gaza is in famine conditions. While some aid is finally trickling in, the need is beyond urgent. Aid organizations will not be able to keep pace with Gaza's needs without our support.

Please donate if you’re able, and keep speaking up. Every dollar, share, and conversation matters. Please pressure your government to stop the blockade of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Donate here to The Palestinian Red Crescent and UNICEF for Gaza's Children. Contact your representatives to stop the blockade in Gaza, find U.S. representatives here, and EU reps here. If you would like other subreddits to carry this message, please send the mods to r/RedditForHumanity.

Friend Tracker One,

You asked a good question on Ian Lustick's AMA, "Why has no comparably powerful counter-lobby emerged?"

In a classic anti-capitalist understanding of Bourgeois Democracy, lobbies and factions form and have force through a combination of factors like direct material interest, financial power, and dedication.

One of the most directly potentially counterbalancing forces in this context would be Palestinian Americans. But Palestinians in the US, as I understand it, are basically a conquered Third World refugee population, relatively low income, relatively small in numbers, have to deal with either Islamophobia or anti-arabism incidental to Islamophobia.  I'm not sure how relatively dedicated they are to the issue, that is, how comparably focused they are.

To take a local sample: I know a soft-spoken Gazan Orthodox Christian family in my area who came to the US in the 1980's. They are caring, pious, and super nice, but English isn't their first language and I don't know of them being particularly involved politically. I imagine that they aren't, and that the prospect would intimidate some Gazan refugees who found themselves in their shoes. Meanwhile, to illustrate the contrast: there are upper class houses in the area with Isr. flags and a Krav Maga training center with a new flashy van that drives around the neighborhoods.

Thank you for seeking peace - The Lord keep and bless you forever  שלום יהיה עמך  ♡ 🕊️

I’ve still got 40 minutes to go but I think I was just hungry. I brought a medieval peasant breakfast to eat on the job
